The Tahoe T16 is a 16-foot 5-inch boat designed as an accessible option for young families interested in boating, water sports, and cruising. Power and Performance
The T16 is powered by a standard 60-horsepower outboard, with an optional upgrade to a 75-horsepower Mercury four-stroke motor. Our test boat featured the optional 75-horsepower engine paired with a 17-pitch Spitfire aluminum propeller. The boat weighs approximately 1,250 pounds empty and had an estimated test weight of 2,089 pounds including fuel, two passengers, and equipment. It achieved a top speed of 39.8 miles per hour at 5,300 RPM and cruised efficiently at 20.6 miles per hour at 3,000 RPM, consuming 2.4 gallons per hour for a fuel economy of 8.6 miles per gallon. The T16 demonstrated quick acceleration, planing in just 2.9 seconds and reaching 20 miles per hour in 5.7 seconds. Its 15-degree dead rise hull, featuring two strakes per side and reverse chines, contributes to excellent handling and a comfortable ride even in less-than-glass-smooth water conditions. The transom’s four-inch setback optimizes engine placement for proper center of gravity and handling balance.
Handling and Helm Features
The T16 offers responsive and enjoyable handling, with the ability to carve tight turns when the outboard motor is trimmed down. Torque is noticeable during maneuvers, prompting a recommendation for the optional hydraulic steering for enhanced control. The helm console is robustly constructed from rotocast three-piece molding, securely bolted at eight points to prevent flexing. The acrylic windscreen is designed with an integrated lip to deflect wind over the captain’s head and is supported by stainless steel. The centrally located gauge cluster provides essential information including speed, fuel level, and trim position. Well-placed accessory switches control navigation lights, bilge pump, horn, and ignition, while power and connectivity plugs are conveniently located on the starboard side tray. The helm area includes comfortable three-across seating with a fold-down center seat that doubles as a boarding step, and upholstery that matches exterior graphics with multiple textures and welting, a rarity at this price point.
Seating and Storage
Seating arrangements on the T16 are thoughtfully designed for comfort and practicality. The aft cockpit features three seats with storage beneath the outboard seats, including a fire extinguisher compartment to port. The center cushion folds down to reveal a shallow storage tray, with an option to install a 6-gallon live well. The aft sun lounge spans the boat’s width when the center cushion is in place, and the middle cushion folds up to expose a non-skid walkway for easy boarding without stepping on upholstery. Removable 4-gallon tubs are stored under the outboard cushions. Forward seating includes adjustable backrests and flip-up bottom cushions made from durable King Starboard bases and Dry-Fast foam cushions.
