Overview
The Tahoe 550TS is a bow rider designed for versatility and performance, equipped with an outboard motor and a range of standard features including a cooler, an AM/FM and Bluetooth-capable stereo with MP3 input, and a trailer. It supports 4-stroke outboards up to 200 horsepower, providing ample power for speed and towing water sports equipment.
Power and Performance
The 550TS features Tahoe's Power Glide 2 hull design, characterized by a wider and longer running surface introduced in 2016. During testing with a Mercury 150 horsepower 4-stroke outboard paired with a 19-inch pitch Tempest Plus 3-blade stainless steel propeller, the boat planed in 4.5 seconds, reached 20 mph in 6.1 seconds, and 30 mph in 8.3 seconds. Its top speed was recorded at 48.8 mph at 5,800 rpm, consuming 13.8 gallons per hour and offering a range of 105 miles at wide open throttle. The most efficient cruising speed was 24 mph at 3,000 rpm, burning 3.9 gallons per hour and extending the range to 182 miles with a 10% fuel reserve. Handling was precise and stable, with the boat banking slightly during slalom and circle turns, maintaining clean tracking, and demonstrating solid performance over wakes and choppy water.
Exterior Design and Helm
The helm area is thoughtfully designed for driver comfort and functionality. It includes a full set of gray spun aluminum gauges that reduce glare, an acrylic hinged brow, and a bungee cord to secure a cell phone. The helm seat is a swiveling bucket style with fore and aft adjustment, complemented by a matching co-pilot seat featuring contoured back support, an angled footrest, and a strategically placed stainless steel grab rail. The tall windshield effectively shields occupants from the breeze without obstructing visibility. The cockpit bench seat spans the width of the area, accommodating at least three passengers with integrated grab handles and outboard speakers. Upholstery features two-tone colors and a raised pattern for enhanced aesthetics. The sun lounge provides ample space for an adult to recline comfortably.
Deck and Boarding Features
At the transom, the 550TS is equipped with swim steps and a four-step ladder with a grab handle on the starboard side, facilitating easier boarding compared to the industry-standard three-step ladders. The port swim step includes a draining locker designed for wet items such as ski tow ropes. Under the sun lounge cushions, large hatches open to a cavernous storage compartment that also provides access to the battery and trim pump, though the addition of partitions would help organize stored gear.
