Overview
The Tahoe 450TS bowrider is a versatile 18-foot 5-inch runabout designed to accommodate family outings and watersports activities. It offers seating in both the bow and cockpit areas, complemented by ample storage solutions throughout the boat. With available outboard power up to 150 horsepower, the 450TS is positioned as a capable towboat suitable for a variety of water-based recreational pursuits.
Exterior Design and Seating
The bow seating area comfortably accommodates an adult facing forward, featuring a grab handle on the gunwale for safety. While seating adults facing each other in the bow may be somewhat tight due to the boat's size, convenience is enhanced by strategically placed cup holders and two-tone upholstery finished with quality stitching and varied textures. Moving aft, the port bucket seat includes a contoured backrest, a swiveling and fore-and-aft adjustable seat, an angled footrest for added comfort, and a grab handle on the gunwale. The cockpit features a full-width bench seat measuring 6 feet 2 inches across, offering ample space with a tall backrest for adult support and matching upholstery. A full-width sun lounge and swim step allow passengers to sit comfortably facing aft on either side of the boat. The boarding ladder is a four-step model located on the starboard swim step, conveniently positioned on the driver’s side to aid visibility when retrieving a fallen skier or boarder. Additionally, a ski-toe pylon is installed just ahead of the outboard motor.
Helm and Instrumentation
The helm is thoughtfully arranged with instruments spanning from left to right, including a fuel gauge, speedometer, voltmeter, water temperature gauge, tachometer, and trim indicator. Controls are ergonomically placed for ease of use, and accessory switches incorporate individual circuit breakers. The driver benefits from a dedicated 12-volt power plug, enhancing functionality during operation. Both the driver and co-pilot seats swivel and adjust fore and aft, facilitating interaction with passengers seated aft.
Storage Solutions
Storage is a prominent feature of the 450TS, beginning with the bow where hinged side cushions lift to reveal molded lockers equipped with gutter channels to divert water and drains for moisture management. A glove box located in the port dash houses an MP3 input and a 12-volt power plug, while two accessory trays flank the stereo remote control. The underdeck storage compartment, accessed via a plastic lid, extends seven feet in length and one foot in depth, providing ample space for skis, boards, and other gear, alongside racks for bow and anchor lights and a paddle. Carpeted trays line each gunnel for additional storage, and a fire extinguisher is conveniently positioned at the aft starboard side. Beneath the center bench seat, there is dedicated space for a large cooler, and the port side cushion folds over to reveal an insulated draining locker. The starboard bottom cushion is hinged to expose another storage compartment. Notably, the outboard version of the 450TS features a large locker in place of the stern drive engine space, offering extensive storage capacity that could benefit from internal partitions for organization. A ski rope rack is mounted on the underside of the hatch. For weather protection, a Bimini Top is available, providing shade and shelter for most of the cockpit area.
Power and Performance
Powered by a 115-horsepower Mercury four-stroke outboard engine paired with a 13.25 by 17 three-blade aluminum propeller, the Tahoe 450TS achieved a top speed of 43.5 miles per hour at 6,000 rpm while consuming 11 gallons per hour, resulting in an estimated range of 86 miles at wide-open throttle. The most efficient cruising speed was recorded at 3,500 rpm, where the boat traveled 21.5 miles per hour and burned 3.6 gallons per hour, extending the range to approximately 131 miles with a 10% fuel reserve. The 2016 model features a Powerglide II hull bottom that is wider and longer than previous iterations, incorporating a reverse chine and Tahoe’s hydro-step lifting strakes at the bow. The boat planes in 4.6 seconds, reaches 20 mph in 8.7 seconds, and 30 mph in 12.6 seconds. Handling is predictable and smooth, with the 450TS carving through turns comfortably in either direction and absorbing bumps effectively when crossing wakes and choppy water.
