Tahoe 210S: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Tahoe 210S represents a significant evolution from Tahoe's previous 21-foot sterndrive model, the 700. Recognizing advances in outboard technology and a growing market demand, Tahoe developed an entirely new hull rather than adapting the old design with an outboard bracket. The 210S is six inches longer than its predecessor and offers a range of thoughtful features and improvements aimed at enhancing both functionality and comfort.
Exterior Design and Cockpit Layout
The 210S features an octagonal cockpit seating arrangement that maximizes social interaction with two out-facing lounges and angled corner seats. Storage solutions are abundant and cleverly integrated throughout the cockpit area. An optional 25-quart carry-on cooler fits neatly beneath the starboard forward seat, secured by a cargo net. Additional storage includes a large two-seat compartment with a mesh divider and a dedicated trash receptacle area, draining storage beneath a removable center seat cushion, and a blue rotocast insulated cooler to starboard. The forward seat offers cargo net storage, serving as a versatile catch-all space. A large in-deck locker provides dedicated storage for the ski-toe pylon. The cockpit is protected by a standard color-matched bimini and illuminated by numerous courtesy lights. The aft center cushion flips open to reveal a non-skid step and a hinged seatback that provides a walkthrough to deep stern platforms, including a four-step reboarding ladder on the starboard side. Both quarters contain wet storage lockers with removable mesh bags for wet towels.
Helm and Bow Features
The helm station is well-appointed with a large lockable glovebox featuring a courtesy light, cargo net storage, and multiple cell phone charging and connectivity options. The glovebox lid includes cord notches for convenient phone placement. The helm seat is a high-rise design that swivels, slides, and includes a flip bolster for comfort. The dashboard is soft-touch and doubles as a storage compartment with internal connectivity and a dedicated cell phone holder with wiring notches. Analog gauges flank a three-spoked wrapped steering wheel, with control buttons and a Mercury binnacle located to starboard. The helm seat is a ventilated wrap-around bucket style with a flip-up bolster. The windshield is full-tempered glass as standard, with an optional half-high version available. Access to the bow is through a 20-inch wide walkthrough, leading to wraparound seating with padded bolsters and a 17-inch footwell. The bow area includes four beverage holders, connectivity ports, and self-draining storage compartments under the seats. Additional storage is found behind the starboard seatback, which also houses a fire extinguisher and helm panel access, while the port side contains further storage and space for an amplifier with a stereo upgrade. The forward seat conceals a non-skid step and an anchor locker. Cushions can be added to create three-across seating or a full sun pad.
Power and Performance
Engine options for the Tahoe 210S range from 150 to 225 horsepower. During testing, the boat was equipped with a single 200 horsepower Mercury four-stroke engine paired with a 13.8 by 20 propeller. The vessel achieved a top speed of 50.9 miles per hour at 5,400 rpm. The most economical cruising speed was found at 3,000 rpm, delivering 25.7 miles per hour with a fuel consumption of 5.4 gallons per hour. This translates to approximately 4.8 miles per gallon and a range of 193 statute miles while maintaining a 10% reserve of the 45-gallon fuel capacity. Handling is precise and responsive, with the boat carving turns smoothly. At full speed, some hull slap is noticeable when crossing waves, but at cruising speed, the bow cuts cleanly through water, providing a comfortable ride.
Trailer and Package
The Tahoe 210S is offered as a complete package including the boat, motor, and a custom dual-axle trailer. The trailer features a swing-away tongue for easy storage, a spare tire, diamond plate steps on the fenders, LED lighting, and a motor support, ensuring convenience and durability for transport.
Conclusion
The Tahoe 210S is a thoughtfully designed and well-executed new model that reflects Tahoe's commitment to innovation. Its all-new hull, rather than a modified sterndrive design, sets it apart in the segment. The boat impresses with its extensive storage options, advanced connectivity features, and practical courtesy lighting, all standard. Performance is strong and handling is confident, making the 210S a versatile and enjoyable boat for a variety of recreational activities.
