From the Owner & Builder:
"After restoring, designing and building many other surface boats, when I retired I set out to build my dream boat. I wanted my own personal submarine that was a fully operational diesel electric U boat. The 1" thick hull is robustly built (approx. 100 gallons of resin) and is well powered with a brand new 4cyl. 85 HP voc compliant diesel engine. I am located on a small creek off Barnegat Bay, NJ. I have only been able to test and use the sub at high tides (5.5' draft) and on nights through the winter when there was no other boat traffic. Mostly used for duck hunting, in the winter, but proved impractical for me to keep due to low tides in winter.
The sub has a fair shape like our new nukes and has the ability to cruise up to 75 miles on surface to dive site; submerge to 75"-100" and cruise along the bottom and view the bottom with a bow camera and lights. It is presently ballasted to maintain a little positive buoyancy and needs forward motion to dive and stay below. The sub (at this time) does not hover and there are no thrusters. It does not have an arm , however, it could have these features in the future.
I am selling the sub as is at this time and not putting any more time or money into it. This basic sub lends itself to these other future additions and improvements. All the mechanisms and controls are simple mechanical devices...handwheels - levers - No Fly By Wire! I designed and fabricated all the thru hull fittings of S.S. and rubber and after two years in the water, it does not leak at all. Sub is also fitted with a dehumidifier that keeps out all moisture and mold at its mooring. It has an engine heater for winter use, and a microwave and Mr. Coffee at the forward bunk for my overnight duck hunting trips. This sub lends itself for future improvements and additions, such as buoyancy and thrusters.
I am 72 now and my goal was to design and build it and cruise around and go duck hunting. My goal is complete at this point and I find it is impractical for me to keep this formidable craft.
Thank You
