Strike Boats: History & Evolution
Origins of Strike Boats
Strike Boats was founded by Greg Poulos, a South Florida boat builder with deep roots in offshore fishing and custom fabrication.
- The company emerged in Fort Lauderdale, one of the world’s most influential centers for sportfishing innovation.
- Poulos built his reputation by prioritizing performance, durability, and fishability over mass production.
- Early Strike builds were highly customized, aimed at serious offshore anglers demanding speed, range, and reliability.
Design Philosophy
Strike Boats quickly developed a reputation for building purpose-driven offshore machines, defined by:
- Deep-V hull designs capable of handling rough offshore seas
- Lightweight yet strong composite construction
- A focus on speed and efficiency, ideal for tournament fishing
- Clean, functional layouts optimized for fishing—not luxury
- Their boats are widely regarded as “purpose-built fishing machines”—a hallmark of serious offshore performance.
Rise in Popularity
Strike Boats gained recognition through organic and performance-based channels:
- Strong word-of-mouth among experienced offshore anglers
- Visibility in South Florida tournament circuits
- Proven ability in rough Atlantic and Gulf Stream conditions
- Participation in international fishing hotspots including:
- Bahamas
- Panama
- Costa Rica
- Mexico
- Unlike large-scale manufacturers, Strike remained low-volume and semi-custom, enhancing its exclusivity and appeal.
Signature Models
While most Strike Boats are custom-built, several models are commonly referenced:
- Strike 26 – Compact offshore performer with impressive speed
- Strike 29 – Known for long-range capability and rough-water handling
- Custom builds – Larger, fully tailored boats based on owner specifications
- Each vessel varies significantly depending on fishing style and owner preferences.
Craftsmanship & Customization
Customization is central to the Strike identity:
- Layouts tailored for:
- Kite fishing
- Trolling
- Deep dropping
- Configurable tower setups, live wells, and electronics
- Close collaboration between builder and owner throughout the process
This hands-on approach ensures that no two Strike Boats are exactly alike.
What sets Strike apart is its emphasis on:
- True custom builds vs. semi-production
- Performance-first engineering
- Builder-driven craftsmanship rather than corporate scaling
Legacy
Strike Boats remains a respected name in the sportfishing community, particularly in South Florida, where performance in demanding offshore conditions defines credibility.
Their legacy is built not on volume—but on precision, reputation, and real-world results offshore.
