As the last 5 decades have proven, no offshore cruising sailboat has stood the test of time better than a Shannon. Back in the 1970s, the common criticism of the Shannon 38 was that Walt Schulz had overdone the robust construction. Today, with so many production boats experiencing catastrophic failures like chainplates that weren't built to last more than 10 or 20 years, or internal tanks that fail and can never be removed, or bolt-on lead keels it is heartening for the Shannon crew to see that the extra time and money put into things like our still good-to-go chainplates, easily removeable tanks, and internal solid lead ballast resulted in boats that will outlive us.
With the current state of the world, it seems like a good time to find the right boat and sail off to someplace warm to find a island to hide behind. Shannons have earned the reputation as the best boat to sail off in the sunset for long distant cruising and living aboard. The Shannon 38 cutter Yemaya is the perfect boat for such a plan. The current owner for the last eleven years has lavished time and money on upgrades and improvements.

The 1977 Shannon 38 cutter Yemaya is located in Marathon, FL, the perfect departure location to get away from it all. Note in the photographs the original 1977 specifications and production order from the Shannon archives. On a personal note, I worked the Long Beach, CA boat show in November 1978 on board this Shannon 38 Hull #15 with the first owner Joan Carnevale, who was a wonderful person.
