This boat is a long distance blue water cruiser or would make an excellent Great Lakes boat. She offers good stability and is comfortable in more challenging conditions. With the possibility of 6 sails aloft at one time, the optimum sail plan is easily achieved for the best speed and upwind performance. She is easy to sail by a solo sailor, couple or family. Although TEAL is an able bluewater vessel, she has been sailed and berthed in the brackish waters of Connecticut and fresh water of Lake Michigan.
Accommodations
Below deck the Shannon 38 classic arrangement has a Teak interior, a generous owner's cabin forward with storage lockers, shelves and drawers. There is a bi-fold privacy door to the forward cabin which opens into the mast enclosure when not in use. Move aft to starboard there is a large head with shower and vanity with sink; and hanging locker to port. Midship the main salon is airy and well-lit, with ample ventilation, plenty of storage and long settees that slide out, equipped with lee cloths they can be used as berths. There is an upper outboard pilot berth on the port side, large folding teak table to accommodate several guests for dinner with a large U-settee that converts to a double birth. Moving aft to port is the well-equipped nav station with built in seat and electric panel, adjacent to the quarter berth aft. Opposite is the galley with a double stainless sink, LPG stove/oven and refrigeration with freezer. A very nice arrangement usually found on larger and newer boats. The engine compartment is centerline beneath the companionway steps.
Manufacturer's Information
Shannon Boat Company was founded by Walt Schulz in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1975 with the intent to design and build offshore yachts to the highest quality standards. Over the years, Shannons have earned an International reputation for quality construction and offshore integrity. Shannons have logged over a million bluewater miles, including an impressive list of circumnavigations and many transoceanic passages. Every major harbor in the world has been visited by a Shannon. Shannon's boatbuilding experience is an unbroken, evolutionary chain from Shannon 38 #1 built back in 1975 to the present day. During every week, there always has been a new Shannon being constructed under Walt Schulz's personal direction. No company building semi-custom yachts anywhere can demonstrate comparable passage making records, a stable management team and a consistent uncompromised standard of quality since 1975.
