Sea Ray SPX 210 Outboard: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Sea Ray SPX 210 Outboard is a versatile and stylish recreational boat designed to accommodate family outings, water sports, and day trips to sandbars. This reimagined model combines a sporty aesthetic with numerous standard amenities and customizable options, making it suitable for a variety of boating lifestyles. Its layout and features emphasize comfort, functionality, and ease of use.

Exterior Design and Deck Features

The SPX 210 Outboard offers a spacious and thoughtfully designed cockpit area with versatile seating arrangements, including an L-shaped bench and a convertible port companion seat that transforms into a lounger. A water sports tower is available as an option, enhancing comfort for enthusiasts. The cockpit is self-bailing, and the upholstery features contrasting colors that contribute to a premium look. Storage is abundant throughout the boat, including dedicated cooler storage and multiple compartments. The integrated swim platform facilitates easy water access with a concealed four-step ladder, while the deck is finished with C deck flooring for added comfort and safety. At the bow, padded seating surrounds the area, complemented by Fusion Premier audio speakers, hidden USB drink holders, and additional integrated storage. Optional filler cushions allow the bow to be converted into a sun lounge or cozy seating area. The anchor locker is designed for a Danforth-style anchor, and the boat is equipped with multiple cleats, including midship cleats for secure docking.

Helm and Technology

The helm station is equipped with a digital dash featuring a standard seven-inch Simrad touchscreen display integrated with SmartCraft Connect technology. This setup allows intuitive engine monitoring and control with simple touch commands, eliminating the need to navigate through multiple screens. Behind the helm cushion, there is easy access to electrical components for servicing. The design prioritizes both style and functionality, providing a comfortable and efficient experience for the captain.

Power and Performance

Powered by a 150-horsepower Mercury outboard engine, the SPX 210 Outboard delivers a top speed of 41.3 miles per hour at 5,600 RPM. The boat’s acceleration is responsive, reaching plane in six seconds, 0 to 20 miles per hour in 10 seconds, and 0 to 30 miles per hour in 14.5 seconds. The optimal cruising speed is approximately 25 miles per hour at 3,500 RPM, where the boat settles smoothly on plane. The vessel measures 23 feet 11 inches in length overall, with a beam of 8 feet 6 inches and a draft of 15 inches with the motor raised. The empty weight is 3,470 pounds, and the test weight with fuel and two passengers was approximately 4,138 pounds. Compared to the stern drive version of the SPX 210, the outboard model offers advantages such as better fuel economy, easier beaching, improved maintenance access, and the ability to raise the motor fully out of the water when docked. While the stern drive provides a sportier, more agile handling experience, the outboard powertrain remains sufficiently powerful and practical.
