Sea Ray 510 Fly: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The C-Ray 510 Fly represents a significant departure from the builder's previous models, showcasing a distinctly European styling reminiscent of Mediterranean yachts. Its sleek profile features a long foredeck and a windshield swept back at a 20-degree angle, evoking the aesthetics of a high-speed sports car. The low, streamlined coach roof and practical yet stylish hull side windows further enhance its sophisticated appearance. Designed with entertaining in mind, the 510 Fly offers multiple inviting spaces from bow to stern.

Exterior Design and Flybridge

The flybridge is a standout feature of the 510 Fly, embodying a large European-style layout that prioritizes socializing and comfort. Positioned behind the upper helm is the yacht's premier seating area, capable of accommodating a crowd for sightseeing, casual dining, or cocktails around a custom table. The flybridge is equipped with a wet bar that includes a refrigerator beneath a solid surface countertop, a trash container, and a convenient sink, making it well-suited for food preparation or as a side table for a grill. Companion seating for two is located opposite the helm, allowing guests to assist with navigation comfortably. An aft-facing seat converts the area into a booth, which can be folded down to reveal a spacious sun pad large enough for two sunbathers. Forward on the bow, two additional sunbathing spots are available. The aft deck offers another entertaining venue with seating for three around a high-gloss table, plus two more seats on an optional settee, easily accommodating six for alfresco dining. Beneath the stairway to the flybridge, a compact console houses an optional pull-out electric grill and an ice maker, amenities recommended for inclusion. The hydraulic teak swim platform at the transom serves as both a beach and a tender launch site, enhancing the yacht's versatility.

Interior Living Spaces

Entering the salon through a three-panel sliding door reveals a spacious, open-plan living area notable for its uninterrupted layout, free from galley, bar, or stairway intrusions. This traditional motor yacht design fosters a large, continuous space that comfortably seats up to ten adults. The interior features rich walnut joinery in cabinets, bulkheads, and trim, a timeless wood choice commonly found on mega yachts that maintains its appeal across decades. Hardwood decking in the salon and galley adds both elegance and practicality, preferred over standard carpeting. Large windows flood the space with natural light, enhancing the inviting atmosphere. The galley is positioned forward and elevated by two steps to the same level as the helm on the starboard side. It is designed in a U-shape, providing ample room for two people, nearly 19 square feet of counter space, and excellent outward views. Storage is thoughtfully arranged with cabinetry around and behind the lower helm dedicated to china, crystal, flatware, and dry goods, supplemented by additional storage under the salon sofas.

Private Accommodations

Below deck, a passageway leading to three staterooms resembles an atrium, open ten feet to overhead windows, and features refined details such as wainscoting and walnut dado rail moldings on textured wall coverings—an uncommon level of finish for this class of yacht. An optional combination washer and dryer is discreetly located under the stairs. The full-beam master stateroom is centrally located on the lower deck and includes a queen-sized bed, walnut joinery, and a cozy yet elegant ambiance. Storage is abundant, with chests of drawers on both sides beneath large vertical windows, and an option to replace one chest with a small table and seating. The cabin benefits from clever use of space between stringers to maximize headroom, which measures six feet at the foot of the bed, and includes a cedar-lined closet. The en-suite master bath is finished with consistent high-quality materials, featuring a separate shower stall and luxury fixtures. Forward lies the VIP stateroom in the bow, also equipped with a household-sized queen innerspring bed and ample natural light from hull side windows. Storage is optimized through bow flare cabinetry and large drawers beneath the bed, along with two cedar closets. This stateroom has private access to a head that doubles as the day head, featuring a separate shower with seating and an opening port light. The third stateroom, located starboard of the atrium, offers twin beds convertible to a large bed with a filler cushion. It provides full standing headroom, hull windows, a hanging locker, and two drawers. This space is versatile and can be adapted as an office, laundry room, or storage area.

Conclusion

The C-Ray 510 Fly impresses with its European-inspired styling, sleek lines, and thoughtful design that balances aesthetics with functionality. Its multiple entertaining areas, spacious and elegant interior, and well-appointed private accommodations position it as a refined motor yacht suitable for both socializing and comfortable cruising. The attention to detail in joinery, layout, and amenities reflects a level of quality often reserved for larger yachts, making the 510 Fly a distinctive offering in its class.
