The Sea Ray 48 Sundancer, also marketed as the 480, was built for the owner who wanted a genuine express cruiser rather than a scaled-down motor yacht. Two staterooms, two heads, a full-beam cockpit under a hardtop with an oversized electric sunroof, and a deep-V fiberglass hull with enough under it to run offshore comfortably. Nearly twenty years on it remains one of the most usable boats in its class for an owner who runs the boat himself.
This example carries the upgraded twin Cummins QSC 8.3 diesels at 540 horsepower each rather than the standard 490, turning four-blade bronze props through conventional V-drives. Hours read 792 and 795 as of August 2026. An Onan 11.5 kW generator shows 1,104 hours, with 50 amp shore power at the dock. The QSC 8.3 is a straightforward common-rail engine with strong parts availability and a service network that reaches wherever this boat is likely to cruise, and V-drive is the right answer for an owner who intends to keep a boat past the warranty horizon.
Accommodation is master forward and a mid-ship guest stateroom, two heads. The cockpit is the real living space: U-shaped seating, wet bar, cockpit table, synthetic teak underfoot, cockpit shower and a separate cockpit refrigerator so the day's use never runs through the saloon. The electric sunroof is what separates a covered cockpit from a usable one in August. Hydraulic swim platform aft. Air conditioning, hot water, galley refrigerator and freezer, oven and microwave below.
A four-foot draft and fourteen-foot air draft open up the shoal water most boats this size have to plan around, and there is no fixed-bridge constraint anywhere on the Atlantic ICW. Four hundred gallons of diesel and a stated 250 nautical mile range.
Electronics are an integrated Raymarine package: twin E120 plotters, radar, GPS, autopilot, VHF, depthsounder and log-speedometer at a dedicated navigation center, with SmartCraft VesselView for engine-level monitoring. Connectivity is unusually current for the vintage, with a KVH dome plus an upgraded Starlink installation. Bow thruster, underwater lighting, transom name lighting, custom stainless anchor and tender supports.
The owner reports the following work and equipment: hull painted and bottom paint, new raw water intakes, 1,000 hour service completed, new cockpit cushions and synthetic teak cockpit flooring, cockpit table, custom steering wheel, new cockpit refrigerator, new galley refrigerator and freezer, new cockpit and windshield covers, bow thruster, hydraulic swim deck, custom stainless anchor, tender supports, transom LED lighting, and new lines and fenders.
The seller reports captain-maintained ownership with a dedicated cleaning crew, light seasonal use, and that the vessel has never been chartered. Viewing by appointment.
Engine and generator hours are as of the date of the original listing and are a representation of what the listing broker is told by the owner and/or actual reading of the engine hour meters. The broker cannot guarantee the true hours. It is the responsibility of the purchaser and/or his agent to verify engine hours, warranties implied or otherwise and major overhauls as well as all other representations noted on the listing brochure.
