Overview
The SeaRay 190 Sport is an entry-level bow rider that distinguishes itself with upscale features and thoughtful design elements. This model offers a blend of performance and comfort, making it suitable for recreational boating enthusiasts seeking a refined experience in a compact package.
Exterior Design and Deck Features
The boat features a standard extended swim platform covered entirely in non-skid material, which extends well beyond the sharp edges of the outdrive for added safety. A flush-mounted three-step reboarding ladder is conveniently located on the starboard side. A walkthrough is cleverly concealed beneath the starboard sun pad, which is supported by steel tracks and held open by articulating hinges. Storage compartments are accessible under the deck hatch and on the port side, which also provides battery access. The aft cockpit includes three-across bench seating, with a reboarding step hidden under the starboard cushion. The remaining cushions open to reveal an insulated, self-draining cooler. An optional water sports tower, constructed from tubular aluminum with a powder-coated black finish, adds a sporty aesthetic with a forward rake. This tower can be equipped with fixed or swivel board racks and features forward-facing tower lights. The bimini supports are designed for easy removal from their sockets.
Interior and Helm Station
The helm is outfitted with a gunmetal gray panel that effectively reduces glare, enhancing visibility on bright days. The leather-wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilt base, complemented by three chrome-bezeled gauges arranged for an uncluttered look. An optional depth gauge is positioned to the right. Storage is ample, with compartments located beside and beneath the console, including a glove box that houses the stereo system. Both the captain and observer benefit from custom bucket pedestal seats that swivel and slide, upholstered in a three-tone vinyl as part of the EX option package. These seats are thickly padded with high backs featuring custom embroidery and flip-up bolsters, contributing to the boat’s upscale interior. Additional storage compartments are found on the port bulkhead, one of which is carpeted and includes a stainless steel drink holder. The bow seating area follows the traditional bowrider layout but features a more squared-off footwell for added comfort. Upholstery continues the multi-toned theme, with a padded backrest for the aft-facing forward seat and storage compartments beneath.
Power and Performance
The test boat was equipped with the optional 220-horsepower, 4.3-liter MPI Mercruiser engine, replacing the standard 135-horsepower, 3.0 MPI engine. This upgrade significantly enhances performance, allowing the boat to reach planing speed in just 4.8 seconds and accelerate to 30 miles per hour in 11.2 seconds. Optimal cruising is achieved with a slight up-trim to a five-degree bow-high attitude; however, excessive trim causes propeller ventilation. Handling is precise, with aggressive full-speed turns that require passengers to hold on firmly as the boat tracks the water like it is on rails. At cruising speeds, turns are smoother with a slight slide, maintaining responsive helm control. The top speed recorded was 53.2 miles per hour at 4520 RPM, with a fuel consumption of 16.8 gallons per hour, resulting in a range of 74 miles. The most efficient cruise setting was at 2750 RPM and 27.3 miles per hour, reducing fuel burn to 5.8 gallons per hour and extending the range to 110 miles while maintaining a 10% fuel reserve.
Conclusion
The SeaRay 190 Sport offers an impressive combination of upscale features, thoughtful design, and strong performance in an entry-level bow rider package. Its extended swim platform, comfortable and stylish seating, and optional enhancements like the water sports tower contribute to its appeal. Powered by a robust optional engine, it delivers quick acceleration, responsive handling, and efficient cruising capabilities. Overall, the 190 Sport stands out as a refined and capable choice for those seeking a versatile recreational boat.
