No compromise had been made in the design and construction of this 34-foot grand prix racer designed by Nelson/Marek. it incorporates the design theories of Admiral's Cup Trial winners "Hi Roler" and Sleeper" and utilizes state-of-the-art construction techniques.
Since a boat in this size range is used primarily for short and medium distance racing, interior accommodation needs are minimal, so the total weight and cost of the interior of the Schock 34 GP have been kept very low in relation to the weight and cost of larger boats. The Schock 34 GP will have the rig and length to beat the smaller boats in its class and the right balance between weight and design to correct out over the larger boats in the classes starting ahead of it.
The hull, deck, keel, and rudder represent the very latest Nelson/Marek concepts. the keel and rudder are elliptical and are definitely fast. Though every measurement is optimized, the changes in the shape of the hull are subtle and the contour of the bottom is kept beautifully sculptured. There are no radical bumps and contortions to interrupt the even flow of the water over the bottom.
The Schock 34 GP will weight approximately 8500 pounds with 3220 of that in the keel. The sail plan has been kept moderate to compliment the light hull form, the mast and spreaders are tapered, and rod standing rigging is standard. in light air, the minimum wetted surface, light construction and narrow beam at the waterline insure good results. In heavy air, the 12' maximum beam will put the crew weight out where it is most effective, keeping the boat high and fast.
A low trunk cabin, a huge trench cockpit, and wide side decks make the deck ideal for racing. Everything you really need is provided from the factory, but plenty of latitude is left for personalizing the layout. The cabin is carried far enough forward of the mast to give the foredeck man a good platform. The seahood over the main hatch is also kept very low.
