One of the most popular models in the Sailfish fleet, the 270
Center Console is an updated version of the Sailfish 2660
Center Console produced from 2002-2012. Both ride on the same solid
fiberglass hull with a moderate 9-foot beam and relatively high
freeboard. The deck layout in both models is nearly identical with
molded bow seating with storage under, forward in-floor storage,
console head with sink and shower, and removable rear jump seats.
The 270?s helm differs from that of her predecessor, and where
the livewell and tackle center of the 2660 were integrated into the
leaning post, in the 270 the livewell is located at the transom. The
console has dash space for a large video display, and the helm seat
footrest offers additional storage under the lid. Cockpit bolsters,
transom rod holders, and a foldaway stern seat are standard. The
deep cockpit of the Sailfish provides an extra level of security for a
boat this size. At 6,700 pounds rigged, the 2660/270 is a relatively
light boat for her size which allows her to perform well (and also
keep the cost down) with twin 150hp engines, she does about 40 knots
wide open.

Sailfish 270: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Sailfish 270CC is a 28-foot, 2-inch center console fishing boat designed to offer an affordable blue water fishing experience combined with family-friendly amenities. With a beam of 9 feet, the 270CC provides a spacious feel and versatile functionality, blending fishing features with recreational comforts.
Exterior Design and Cockpit Features
The boat's stern is thoughtfully equipped with a mix of fishing gear and recreational accessories, including a splash well tool rack, multiple rod holders, cup holders, and a retractable ski pylon. A transom door on the port side facilitates easy access, complemented by Sailfish's dot matrix non-skid surface, which is designed for easier cleaning. A four-step stainless steel boarding ladder is stowed in its own locker. The cockpit offers a 40-inch wide bench seat and corner rear jump seats as optional features, with the bench designed for easy removal to access mechanical systems such as live well and bilge pumps. Additional standard equipment includes removable fender clips for quick deployment during docking or rafting. The cockpit is outfitted with bolsters for fishing comfort, rod and landing gear racks, stainless steel tow rails, and dedicated spots for downrigger balls. The leaning post features a freshwater sink, two cup holders, a 35-gallon live well, and a tool holder. The live well shutoff valve is accessible through a hatch at the base of the leaning post. Both captain and companion seats include folding footrests, fold-up bolsters, and armrests for enhanced comfort.
Helm and Console Layout
The helm is designed to accommodate two 12-inch navigation screens flanking digital instruments, with a compass aligned directly with the steering wheel. Accessory switches and gauges are protected under an extended eyebrow, and trim tab buttons are ergonomically positioned for ease of use. Forward of the companion seat are two cup holders and a storage tray with expandable netting. An angled footrest with a hinged hatch provides additional storage. The optional T-top includes four rocket launcher-style rod holders, a locking radio box, spreader lights, and courtesy lighting.
Forward Cabin and Storage
The port side features a bi-fold door that allows wide access to the head compartment while clearing the outboard gunwale. The head includes an optional sink and toilet, storage netting and trays, and a screened port for ventilation. Battery switches are conveniently located just inside the door. The front of the console houses a standard Yeti cooler with a fixed backrest that serves as an additional seat. The in-deck locker forward is spacious enough to store fenders, while insulated fish boxes with overboard drains and secure hatches flank the outboard sides. An optional windlass is available, with access to the rode locker beneath a hatch. The bow area converts into a comfortable lounge with bottom cushions and removable backrests, complemented by a table that clips into a dedicated bracket. Seven LED courtesy lights are strategically placed throughout the boat.
Power and Performance
The Sailfish 270CC is offered with twin outboards from Yamaha or Mercury, supporting up to 400 total horsepower. The test boat was powered by twin 150-horsepower Mercury four-stroke outboards equipped with Inertia Eco 14x19 three-blade stainless steel propellers and 1.92-to-1 gear reductions. With an estimated test weight of 7,955 pounds, the boat was evaluated in 1-to-2-foot seas and 15-knot winds gusting to 20 knots. It achieved a top speed of 46.9 miles per hour at 5,500 rpm. The optimal cruising speed was 27 mph at 3,500 rpm, consuming 9.8 gallons per hour and providing a range of approximately 466 miles with a 10% fuel reserve from the 188-gallon capacity. Acceleration tests showed the boat planed in 3.9 seconds, reached 20 mph in 4.4 seconds, and 30 mph in 6.6 seconds. The hull features Sailfish's variable degree stepped bottom with a sharp deadrise and a small keel pad, flattening slightly at the chine. Handling tests demonstrated the boat's ability to carve clean turns in choppy conditions and maintain course in crosswinds, aided by trim tab adjustments and a flared bow that effectively reduces spray. Overall, the 270CC offers a comfortable and confident ride suitable for offshore excursions.
Conclusion
The Sailfish 270CC successfully combines the attributes of a capable offshore fishing vessel with family-friendly amenities and versatile features. Its spacious layout, thoughtful design elements, and reliable performance make it well-suited for both serious anglers and recreational boaters seeking comfort and functionality. The boat's ability to handle varied sea conditions while providing ample accommodations underscores its appeal as a well-rounded center console option.
