Sailfish 241 CC: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Sailfish 241 CC is a center console boat that distinguishes itself with a higher freeboard compared to other 24-foot models, enhancing its capability in rough water conditions. Its design incorporates a variable deadrise step hull with three distinct fore and aft deadrise angles, starting with 24 degrees at the keel and transitioning to about 22 degrees at the hard chine. This hull configuration aims to provide a balance of a smooth ride and stability. Unique to Sailfish, Kevlar reinforcement is integrated into the keel and transom corners to reduce hull flex.

Power and Performance

The Sailfish 241 CC is rated for a maximum of 300 horsepower, though the test model was equipped with a 250 horsepower Yamaha outboard paired with a 15 3/4 inch by 15 three-bladed saltwater series 2 propeller. With two people aboard and less than half a tank of fuel, the boat weighed approximately 6,175 pounds. Performance testing recorded a top speed of 43.6 miles per hour at 5,800 rpm. The most efficient cruising speed was found at 3,000 rpm, where the boat traveled at 20.7 miles per hour while consuming 6.5 gallons per hour, yielding a fuel economy of 3.2 miles per gallon and a range of 318 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve from its 110-gallon fuel capacity. A more typical cruising speed of 4,000 rpm delivered 29.9 miles per hour and a range of 259 miles. Acceleration was strong, with the boat reaching 20 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds and 30 miles per hour in 8.7 seconds. The hull was responsive and easy to trim, exhibiting nimble handling through aggressive maneuvers without sliding or prop slip. The boat’s high freeboard and 8 foot 6 inch beam contribute to a feeling of security and stability usually associated with larger vessels, and it demonstrated confidence-inspiring performance in choppy intercoastal waters and wake conditions.

Fishing Features and Exterior Design

The Sailfish 241 CC is designed to accommodate both serious anglers and family outings. The bow features insulated fish boxes with overboard drainage to keep catches fresh, complemented by additional storage in the cockpit sole. An optional anchor windlass with a polished roller is available for bottom fishing. The center console includes a large flat instrument panel suitable for flush-mounted electronics and a standard compass. Storage is abundant, including a molded-in compartment with a clear acrylic lid atop the console and additional storage beneath the footrest. The helm leaner seat is ergonomically designed for both standing and seated operation, with a hinged starboard cushion providing storage for small items such as cell phones and radios. Multiple rod holders are strategically placed: four rocket launcher-style holders on the rear of the leaning post, four more on the T-top, two vertical holders on the transom bulkhead, and four flush-mounted holders along the gunwales for trolling. The optional molded fiberglass hardtop offers shade and includes built-in LED lighting, speakers, a storage box, and provisions for swing-out outriggers. Its powder-coated D-tube legs are positioned close to the console to facilitate easy movement around the helm area. Comfort features include combing pads along the gunwales for leaning when fighting fish and a 25-gallon oval live well with a clear lid and high-speed pickup located to port at the transom, accompanied by convenient tool holders.

Family-Friendly Amenities and Additional Features

Beyond its fishing capabilities, the Sailfish 241 CC offers several family-friendly features. The bow seating includes forward-facing backrests that can also serve as armrests when seated sideways, and these seats can be swung out of the way when not in use. Powder-coated aluminum handholds provide safety when underway. An optional bow table transforms the forward area into a comfortable picnic spot at anchor. A well-padded forward-facing seat is mounted on top of a 27-quart insulated cooler attached to the front of the center console. The large bifold side console door leads to a changing room that can be equipped with an optional marine head. At the stern, a walk-through transom door provides access to a fiberglass hatch covering a telescoping four-step stainless steel boarding ladder. A standard pull-out shower wand, plumbed to a 14-gallon freshwater tank, is available for swimmers. The centerline is fitted with hardware for an optional tow pylon to support various water sports. Stern seating includes a fold-up cushion attached to a hinged fiberglass access panel that allows entry to the bilge and support systems. An optional removable jump seat is located in the port quarter. Overall, the boat comfortably seats five people from the helm aft, providing a practical and comfortable environment for both fishing and entertaining.

Conclusion

The Sailfish 241 CC successfully combines robust construction, thoughtful design, and versatile functionality. Its reinforced hull and higher freeboard enable confident offshore performance, while its fishing features and family-oriented amenities make it adaptable for a range of activities. The boat’s nimble handling, efficient powertrain, and spacious layout provide a sense of security and comfort beyond what its size might suggest, making it a capable and well-rounded center console vessel.
