2013 Sabre 456 Sold Boat in Annapolis, MD 21401 US

Sabre 456 - Hull #5 of 5 Built

There are production yachts, there are semi-custom yachts, and then there are boats like this.

Hull #5 of only five Sabre 456s ever built represents the final evolution of Sabre's celebrated sailing program-a rare opportunity to own what many consider one of the finest American-built performance cruising yachts of the modern era. Designed by renowned naval architect Jim Taylor, the 456 blends exceptional offshore capability with refined craftsmanship, elegant lines, and sailing performance that has become synonymous with the Sabre name. Conceived as a true bluewater cruiser while remaining equally comfortable coastal cruising or club racing, the Sabre 456 strikes an uncommon balance between luxury, speed, and simplicity of handling.

This particular yacht stands apart even among the handful produced. Finished in stunning Awlgrip Midnight Blue and maintained to an exceptionally high standard, she has benefited from extensive investment over the past several years, transforming an already outstanding yacht into an exceptionally capable modern cruiser. From her nearly new North 3Di black carbon sail inventory to her recently replaced standing and running rigging, electric sail handling systems, and thoughtful equipment upgrades throughout, she presents as a yacht ready for immediate coastal cruising, offshore passagemaking, or spirited day sailing.

The Sabre 456 was designed around one simple philosophy: create a yacht capable of covering serious miles while remaining enjoyable to sail every day. Her moderate displacement, generous sail plan, efficient underbody, and well-balanced helm provide rewarding performance in light air while inspiring confidence when conditions become demanding. Unlike many luxury cruising yachts of similar size, the 456 feels responsive and alive under sail, pointing exceptionally well and remaining easily driven across a wide range of wind strengths. Reviewers consistently praised her ability to combine offshore stability with genuine sailing excitement-a rare accomplishment in today's cruising market.

Sabre's Maine craftsmanship is immediately evident below deck. Rich hand-finished American cherry joinery, meticulous fit and finish, abundant natural light, and thoughtful ergonomics create an interior that feels warm, inviting, and timeless rather than trendy. Every mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system was engineered with long-term serviceability in mind, reflecting Sabre's reputation for building yachts intended to be owned and enjoyed for decades rather than seasons.

Perhaps most impressive is how easily this yacht can be handled by a cruising couple. Extensive electric sail controls dramatically reduce physical effort while preserving complete sailing performance. Electric primary winches, electric headsail furling, electric Code Zero furling, and the LeisureFurl boom make reefing, hoisting, furling, and sail changes remarkably simple, allowing two people-or even a capable solo sailor-to manage the yacht with confidence.

The recent upgrades aboard this yacht represent an investment that would be extraordinarily expensive to duplicate today. Highlights include:

• Awlgrip Midnight Blue topsides
• Electric primary winches
• Electric headsail furling
• Electric Code Zero furler
• LeisureFurl in-boom furling mainsail system
• Premium North 3Di black sail inventory with minimal use
• Code Zero
• Standing rigging replaced in 2024/2025
• Numerous additional mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic upgrades (more details to come)

Only five Sabre 456s were ever produced. Opportunities to acquire one are exceptionally rare, and examples maintained and updated to this standard are rarer still. For the sailor seeking a yacht that combines classic American craftsmanship, true offshore capability, rewarding sailing performance, and the exclusivity of owning the final and finest expression of Sabre's sailing heritage, this is a remarkable offering.
