Sonic is the fin keel version of the ever-popular S2 7.9 with a lifting keel. There were only 17 of these fin keel models built. The original 7.9 GRAND SLAM was designed by Graham & Schlageter for MORC and one-design racing, of which there are several one-design classes across the country and also raced under PHRF. The keel version not only has the very efficient deep fin keel, but a double spreader masthead rig and the mast is stepped at the keel. The ballast in the keel is 1,550 and there also is 220 lbs in the hull. The hull, cockpit and deck are the same. While the original S2 7.9 had an interior with berths, a semi-private head, the keel version is more for racing with two quarter pipe berths and this boat's forward berths were removed for sail storage. The headroom is 5'5'. And there's a spot for a porta potti. To port there is a nav table and counters are set port and starboard midships. There is an aluminum grid across the midsection of the hull which gives not only structural support for the keel and hull, but also is the base for the removable teak and holly boards making up the cabin sole. It also incorporates the interior companionway steps. So, it is a no fuss racer built for speed. The current owner does not use the boat enough after the demise of her boat partner so she is putting it up on the market. It is located in the Hudson City Marina and her slip is available for the going price. There is a racing sailing club in Hudson too, which is where the last 2-3 owners raced her. There is a newer and older set of racing sails.
