Overview
The Rinker 196 Captiva was developed to bridge the gap between their 18 and 21-foot models, offering versatility through both stern drive and outboard configurations. This review focuses on the outboard version, which is rated for up to 200 horsepower and equipped with a Yamaha 115 engine. The design aims to appeal to a broad audience by combining practical features with thoughtful ergonomics.
Exterior Design and Deck Features
The boat features dual swim platforms on either side and a notably deep motor well, facilitating easier engine servicing by allowing access directly in front of the engine. On the starboard side, a three-step reboarding ladder is integrated into the transom hatch, which includes a handhold to assist swimmers exiting the water. The hull extends beyond the transom where the engine is mounted, a design element intended to improve planing times. A centrally located optional ski tow pylon is available for watersports.
