Marmetta, was designed by Philip L. Rhodes of New York City. She was built by the Blanchard Boat Company of Seattle, Washington, and is, to all intents and purposes, a larger edition of Rhodes 27. The layout and general profile are the same, but the extra two feet of waterline length have been used to obtain a slightly larger boat.
Dimensions: 42 feet 9 inches overall, 29 feet on the waterline, 10 feet beam, 6 feet 4 inches draft. Marmetta carries 756 square feet of sail, a reasonably liberal amount for this design.
Accommodations consist of a two-berth stateroom with plenty of storage space forward, followed by a head to port and hanging lockers to starboard. Aft of this is the main cabin, which is equipped with a built-in berth with extension transom on the port side and a setteé berth on the starboard side. A conveniently arranged galley is located aft to port, while a chart table and storage space are to starboard.
Marmetta is planked with Port Orford Cedar with Everdur fastenings, originally had Kordless standing rigging and Merriman hardware. Her motor was replaced in 1959 with a Mercedes OM 636 VI-E diesel engine mounted aft under the cockpit. She carries seventy gallons of fuel and one hundred gallons of water.
