Reliance 44 Ketch, hull #19 (1977/1980)
MAD RIVER is a full keel bluewater ketch with cutaway forefoot. Very ruggedly built, she is equipped with Hood Stoway on main (electric or manual) and mizzen which allows her to be easily and safely sailed by a couple across any ocean. In reviews published by major boating magazines the Reliance 44 has been described as a safe offshore cruiser; as having massive scantlings; overbuilt perhaps but comforting when caught offshore in a blow.
After having received a major rebuild in 1992, MAD RIVER traveled far during the years 1993 to 2008. She has been located on freshwater Lake Champlain during the years before and after her extended cruise. Today, she continues to be maintained to the very high standard that has turned eyes in many countries.
