Broker’s Comment:
This is a much-loved cruising sailboat designed by Stan Huntingford. Laid down with heavy fiberglass in Taiwan in 1978 by Lien Hwa, it features quality construction that many feel has long since been lost to mass-produced boats. 32 Rafiki 35’s were built. Graceful traditional lines and quality teak joinery make her a thing of beauty.

The boat was equipped for cruising and has many upgrades. Those include: Si Tex SNS-700i Chart plotter (2014), TackTick Knot, Depth & Wind, Battery Charger (2014), 3 batteries (2014), Sails Refurbished (2013), Lazy Jacks in 2013, new cockpit cushions (2013), New VHF w/DSC (2013), new fuel tank (2013), Air conditioning installed (2015), Refrigeration (2015), and Harken Mainsheet Blocks (2013).

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1978 Rafiki 35 is a classic sailboat known for its sturdy construction and timeless design. Here are some of the key pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Solid Build Quality: The Rafiki 35 is well-regarded for its robust fiberglass hull and strong craftsmanship, making it a durable vessel for offshore cruising.

Spacious Interior: For a 35-foot boat, it offers a surprisingly roomy cabin layout with comfortable sleeping quarters and ample storage.

Stable Sailing Performance: Its full keel design contributes to excellent stability and steady handling, ideal for long passages.

Classic Aesthetic: The traditional lines and wood trim appeal to sailors who appreciate vintage styling.

Good Load-Carrying Capacity: The boat can carry provisions and gear comfortably, suitable for extended voyages.

Cons

Heavier Weight: The solid construction and full keel add weight, which can reduce speed compared to lighter, more modern designs.

Limited Maneuverability: The full keel, while providing stability, may result in less nimble handling, especially in tight marinas or crowded harbors.

Older Systems: Being a 1978 model, many onboard systems such as electrical, plumbing, and rigging may require updates or maintenance.

Less Modern Amenities: Interior accommodations and equipment reflect the era's design standards and may lack some conveniences found in newer boats.

Potential for Wear: As a vintage vessel, it may need ongoing upkeep to address issues related to age and usage.
