Pursuit OS 355: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Pursuit OS355 Offshore model is designed as both a capable deepwater fishing platform and a versatile family cruiser. It offers a well-balanced combination of fishing functionality and comfortable cruising amenities, making it suitable for offshore excursions and family outings alike.
Exterior Design and Cockpit Features
Starting at the stern, the OS355 is powered by triple 300 horsepower Yamaha V6 engines featuring integrated digital electric steering and Yamaha's joystick control system for full maneuverability. An optional upgrade includes twin Yamaha 425 XTO engines with digital electronic steering, Helm Master with joystick maneuvering, set point, and autopilot capabilities. The stern area includes modest platforms on both sides and a connecting walkway ahead of the engine well. An electric shore cord reel is located starboard. A 28-gallon transom live well and a deep storage compartment with a removable bin are positioned just forward. The cockpit features a wide, non-skid deck space with dual 45-gallon insulated fish boxes on both sides, each equipped with diaphragm pumps and overboard discharge. A hatch between the fish boxes provides access to the mechanical compartment housing bilge pumps, live well pumps, filters, and dedicated storage for the cockpit table and pedestal. A flip-out transom seat is standard, with an optional additional seat on the starboard bulwark. Under-gunnel rod storage is available on both sides. Forward of the cockpit is a molded entertainment center with a sink, electric grill, cutting board, 120-volt outlet, hinged lid, and storage below. Two upholstered seats flank a walkway and steps leading to the elevated helm deck. An optional sunshade extends from the hardtop's trailing edge, while grab rails and high rails along the hardtop ensure safe passage to the forward deck. A sun pad with grab rails is optionally installed atop the trunk cabin. At the bow, a hatch conceals the standard windlass, 8-inch cleat, chain binder, and a 22-pound plow-style anchor with a self-righting swivel shackle.
Helm and Bridge
The elevated helm deck is designed for comfort and functionality, with the helm station mounted to starboard. Optional 12-inch multifunction displays populate the panel, and all electrical switches are grouped to the left of the stainless steel steering wheel, which includes a steering knob. Digital engine controls and the Helm Master joystick are positioned to the right. Dual foot rests enhance operator comfort. Visibility is excellent through a large single-piece windshield with an electrically actuated vent at the top center, supplemented by an overhead opening hatch for additional ventilation. The helm seat features flip armrests, a flip bolster, and adjustments for fore and aft positioning as well as swivel capability. Behind the helm seat is a 1.3-cubic foot refrigerated compartment with a fiberglass lid. To port, an aft-facing chaise lounge is complemented by double-wide forward-facing seating with padded side bolsters, flip-down armrests, recessed grab handles, and an air conditioning vent. This seating area is elevated for improved visibility, with battery switches and the main breaker panel concealed beneath.
Interior Living Spaces
Below deck, the cabin is elegantly finished with dark maple wood accents contrasted by light countertops and cushions. Hull-side windows and opening port lights provide ample natural light. To port, the galley features Corian countertops and backsplash illuminated by LED surface lighting. It includes a stainless steel sink with a cutting board and dedicated storage, a two-burner electric cooktop with pop-up potholders, and a microwave oven. Below the counter is a 4.6-cubic foot refrigerator with additional storage alongside. Forward of the galley is a V-shaped seating area with storage beneath and a solid wood table mounted on an electrically adjustable pedestal. The V-seats themselves are electrically adjustable and convert into a queen-size berth. A hardwood-framed accent mirror is positioned forward, and a 28-inch television connected to an amplified audio system is mounted on the aft bulkhead, all standard equipment.
Private Accommodations and Head
The mid-berth includes a full-size 6-inch mattress with a wood frame. The aft bulkhead is equipped with rod storage for four rods, and a hanging locker with additional storage is located nearby. To starboard, the door leads to the wet head, which features a full-length mirror on the interior. The head compartment includes an opening port light for ventilation, a vessel sink set atop a Corian counter, and a vacu-flush toilet discharging into a 22-gallon holding tank. Storage is concealed behind an opaque glass door, and a shower wand is mounted opposite the sink.
Conclusion
The Pursuit OS355 Offshore is a thoughtfully designed crossover vessel that excels as both a family cruiser and a serious offshore fishing platform. Its extensive standard features and minimal options list highlight the builder's commitment to delivering a well-equipped, versatile boat.
