Pursuit DC 306: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Sovereign Boat Club is seeking select boats to include in its shared access program, requiring vessels to meet five essential criteria. These include being from a reputable brand, offering an excellent warranty, featuring a safe and well-designed hull compliant with ABYC standards, possessing specific key features for ease of use and comfort, and representing good value for the money. The Pursuit DC 306 Dual Console exemplifies these qualities, making it a strong candidate for the program.

Exterior Design and Features

The Pursuit DC 306 boasts a fiberglass hardtop, which is a distinctive feature compared to the typical metal frame with fiberglass top found on many boats. This solid fiberglass construction allows for elegant curves and a seamless integration with the curved windshields that extend all the way to the top, providing excellent protection from the elements. The boat’s transom extends further aft than most boats in its class, facilitating easier access for boarding, propeller maintenance, or handling fish. The bow area includes a well-appointed anchor locker with a light, fresh and raw water rinse systems, and a bracket for a swim ladder that can be deployed from the bow—ideal for beachside mooring. A horizontal windlass is installed, which is often preferred over vertical models. Additionally, the boat is equipped with a tuna door on the side, rod holders, bait wells, and fish boxes, supporting serious fishing activities.

Interior and Functional Features

Inside, the Pursuit DC 306 features a thoughtfully designed helm area with easy access to wiring behind the dash via flip-up latches, simplifying maintenance or upgrades. The boat includes a joystick and a bow thruster, enhancing maneuverability for operators of all skill levels. The enclosed head compartment is notable for its electric flushing toilet and a retractable overhead that tucks into a pocket in the dash, providing ample headroom and comfort. The head space also includes a small sink, mirror, and storage beneath the vanity, offering convenience and privacy.

Mechanical and Performance Attributes

A standout mechanical feature of the Pursuit DC 306 is its dual poly fuel tanks, a rarity in boats of this size. These tanks offer operational flexibility; for shorter trips, only one tank needs to be filled, reducing fuel sloshing and eliminating the need for baffles required in larger tanks. Poly tanks are often preferred over metal for durability and maintenance reasons. This dual tank setup enhances range and convenience, contributing to the boat’s rugged and reliable construction.

Value and Suitability for Shared Access

While the Pursuit DC 306 may be positioned at a premium price point, it justifies this with luxury features such as an onboard refrigerator and other amenities that enhance comfort and usability. Its family-friendly design, robust build quality, and low maintenance requirements—demonstrated by the club’s experience with the Pursuit DC 266—make it an excellent choice for the Sovereign Boat Club’s shared access program. The boat meets all the club’s criteria, ensuring it provides a safe, enjoyable, and practical boating experience.
