Passport built 25 of these 37' boats, designed by Robert Perry, from 1984 to 1988. The 37 is a smaller version of the successful Passport 40 and improved her already impressive performance. She goes faster to wind due to the finer bow. Merlin is a 2-owner, fresh water only boat. In 2016, the then, elderly owner repowered the boat with a new diesel inboard and transmission. The current owner bought her in 2018 and says there are less than 100 hours on the new engine. The boat has been regularly maintained. Ports have been re-caulked - the head, holding tank, vent and flooring have been replaced. The woodwork and joinery down below is stunning. On the port side there's an L-shaped dinette which converts to a double berth. Across to starboard is a settee. In the forepeak lies the large head with hanging locker just aft which has a solid teak door for complete privacy, and another teak door separating the forward cabin and the main salon. Between the main bulkhead and the forward head area is a Pullman's berth to port with hanging locker and cabinets across. She sleeps a total of 5. The dinette pulls out. Aft of the dinette is an L-shaped galley. On the starboard side there's another hanging locker, nav table and quarter berth. The teak and holly sole extends the whole length of the main cabin all the way to the forepeak. The keel is shoal draft (modified full, but still a fin) - molded in as a part of the hull - with internal ballast and the spade rudder is protected attached to a skeg. They are very stable under sail. There's so many nice things about this beautiful boat. The idea was to build finely crafted semi-custom yachts built to the same standards as world renowned luxury yachts with a better price tag. The interior teak is lush and awesomely inviting. The hull is built with hand-laid GRP. The cockpit floor and side decks are teak with laminated teak on the seating areas. The coach roof is non-skid. Her rig is double spreader supported by 4 chain plates per side and a single backstay. Perry wanted her to bridge the gap between cruising and performance, but is mostly considered as a blue water boat.
