General Overview

An innovative light displacement fast cruising yacht designed by Carl Schumacher, the Lightwave 48 is an attractive centre cockpit coachroof yacht. Her light displacement means that she needs only a modest rig to deliver superb performance, especially offwind. The Lightwave 48 Scarlet Oyster is perhaps the most successful Oyster racer ever built.

Below decks she is a proper cruising yacht, with seamanlike design and spacious comfortable accommodation space. The owner's stateroom aft has its own companionway giving private deck access. Nineteen were launched between 1987 and 1991.

Starting forward is a private stateroom with ensuite head and "wet" shower.  There is a V-berth with filler, shelves, drawers and a hanging locker for storage.

The Salon features a U-shaped dinette to port and a settee to starboard.  There are bookshelves and cabinets outboard on each side.

The nav station is next aft on starboard with access to the mid-ship guest stateroom.  Here you will find upper and lower single berths with good access to the engine room.  Note:  There are no cushions for this cabin.

The alley-galley has excellent counter space and storage.  There top loading fridge and freezer compartments, a 2-burner Force 10 stove/oven and a double basin stainless steel sink.  There is also excellent access to the engine compartment!

All the way aft, we find the owners stateroom with a single berth to port and a double berth to starboard.  There is plenty of storage in drawers, shelves, lockers and hanging lockers.  An ensuite head with "wet" shower complements this great space!  A secondary companionway leading to the aft deck is also in this cabin!
