Construction and Exterior
- Hull and deck: The hull is 100% hand-laid solid fiberglass with vinylester resin used in the outer layers to prevent osmosis. The deck is vacuum-bagged, Divinycell-cored fiberglass.
- Safety features: A watertight bulkhead is located 7 feet from the bow. The keel is laminated to the hull, eliminating the need for keel bolts. An open transom ensures rapid cockpit drainage.
- Cockpit: The deep, secure, T-shaped aft cockpit provides excellent protection and visibility. It features long seating, a walkthrough transom, and extensive storage, including a dedicated liferaft locker. A hard dodger with safety glass was a popular optional feature.
- Sailing rig: This Outbound 46 is set up as a solent rig with a large mainsail, designed for fast and easy handling by a shorthanded crew. The aluminum spar is from Charleston Spars, and all control lines lead aft to the cockpit.
