PRICE REDUCTION to $399,500 !!!!!  Her owner would like to sell, and will consider serious offers. This is an opportunity to acquire a top notch Outbound 46 for a very fair price.

“SYZYGY" was built for very knowledgeable owners, who have many bluewater miles behind them.  She is a superior yacht that is truly a sail-away vessel for the serious offshore cruiser.

In the 2003 Marion to Bermuda race SYZYGY was the tenth boat in a fleet of 79 yachts to cross the finish line, completing the course in less than 95 hours while the crew enjoyed the comfort of her many amenities.  Other racing successes for SYZYGY include First Place – PHRF 2008 Corinthians Stonington to Boothbay Harbor Race, the Windward Trophy – First Place 2009 Indian Harbor Yacht Club Gearbuster Race, and second place in the 2008, 2009 and 2014 Corinthians Double Handed Races.

The late Carl Schumacher, whose other successful designs include the Alerion Express 28 and 38, Oyster’s Lightwave 48, the Express 27 and 37, and many west coast custom-racing yachts, designed the Outbound 46. This design successfully combines the moderate displacement required for cruising comfort, upwind performance, excellent control, and the speed, strength and seaworthiness to beat rough weather.

In a feature article in Blue Water Sailing, author Quentin Warren summed up his sail on an Outbound 44/46; “Bulletproof cruising, semi-custom detailing and sophisticated blue-water performance describe this powerful Schumacher design.”

Noted delivery skipper and 4 time Round the World Race veteran Bill Biwenga has this comment after a transAtlantic delivery -  "The Outbound is, in brief, a fabulous boat.  She's fast, well balanced, and the details are right.  She's a terrific boat for going to sea..."

Syzygy” is available for delivery to a sailor who will appreciate such a beautiful, well-found offshore performance cruiser.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 2002 Outbound 46 is a well-regarded expedition-style trawler known for its robust construction and comfortable cruising capabilities. Here are some of the key pros and cons of this model:

Pros

Sturdy Build: The Outbound 46 features a solid fiberglass hull designed for long-range cruising and offshore conditions, offering durability and safety.

Spacious Interior: Its thoughtful layout provides ample living space, including comfortable sleeping quarters, a well-equipped galley, and a functional salon, making extended voyages enjoyable.

Fuel Efficiency: Powered by a reliable diesel engine, the boat offers good fuel economy for its size, enabling longer passages with fewer refueling stops.

Good Range: With substantial fuel tank capacity, the Outbound 46 is capable of extended cruising without the need for frequent refueling.

Seaworthiness: The design includes a full keel and moderate displacement, contributing to stable handling and a comfortable ride in various sea conditions.

Classic Aesthetic: The traditional trawler styling appeals to those who appreciate timeless yacht design.

Cons

Speed: As a displacement trawler, the Outbound 46 is not designed for speed, with cruising speeds generally in the 7-8 knot range, which may be slower than some other vessels.

Maneuverability: Its size and hull design can make tight maneuvering in marinas or crowded docks more challenging, often requiring skillful handling or assistance.

Older Systems: Being a 2002 model, some onboard systems and equipment may be dated or require updates to modern standards.

Limited Builder Support: Since the Outbound brand is no longer in production, sourcing specific parts or factory support can sometimes be difficult.

Interior Style: While spacious, the interior design may feel somewhat traditional or dated compared to more contemporary yachts, which might not suit all tastes.
