2001 Omega LSR Open Bow - MerCruiser V8 - Composite Floor - Tandem Trailer
Not your typical 2001 bowrider! This California-built Omega LSR combines old-school West Coast performance-boat styling with an open-bow layout, MerCruiser V8 power, and a tandem-axle trailer. Even better, this one has been kept remarkably nice and has already had one of the biggest concerns on an older boat addressed-the cockpit flooring was rebuilt approximately four years ago using composite material with NO WOOD and finished with new carpet.
Omega Boats came out of Southern California's performance-boat scene, and the LSR certainly looks the part. Long, low, and only about 7' wide, this isn't shaped like the typical family runabout of its era. The LSR was offered by Omega in stern-drive, jet-drive and outboard configurations, further showing where this model sat in the performance-boat world. Published specifications put the LSR Open Bow at approximately 21' overall and 2,900 lbs dry.
Power is a MerCruiser 5.0L V8 paired with a Mercury Alpha One Gen II stern drive, showing approximately 538 hours. It is a simple, proven and readily serviceable package that fits this boat nicely. The drive presents very well, and the boat has clearly benefited from freshwater use and attentive ownership.
Condition is what really makes this Omega stand out. The deep burgundy gelcoat still has excellent shine, the period graphics remain striking, stainless hardware presents nicely, and the white upholstery with coordinating burgundy, purple and charcoal accents is remarkably well preserved for the age. We recently gave the boat a thorough cleanup, and it shows extremely well.
The open-bow configuration gives you considerably more usability than the closed-deck performance boats this styling normally brings to mind. Up front is a surprisingly spacious wraparound bow seating area, while the cockpit offers twin helm/passenger seats, additional seating aft, plenty of storage and a large padded engine hatch/sunpad. There is also an upgraded stereo system with amplifiers, multiple speakers and a subwoofer.
Approximately four years ago, the cockpit/deck flooring was redone using composite material rather than wood, then recarpeted. That is a particularly worthwhile improvement on a boat of this vintage and something the next owner should appreciate.
Included is the matching-style Ultimate tandem-axle trailer, equipped with surge brakes and a swing-away tongue. Interestingly, the historical listing for this exact boat documents that trailer along with its freshwater history and shows that the Omega had only 389 hours at that time-meaning the current owner has actually enjoyed and used the boat while continuing to care for it.
This is simply a neat boat. If you're shopping strictly by model year and book value, an Omega LSR probably isn't what brought you here. If you appreciate the long, low lines of the Southern California performance boats of the era and want something different that can still comfortably take family and friends along, this one deserves a look.
Offered at $19,900 including tandem-axle trailer.
