The 38 Super Sport was one of Ocean's best-selling models ever. A total of 158 of these boats were built and have remained popular for many years after she went out of production in 1991. Key to the popularity of the Ocean 38 SS is her handsome good looks and a potent combination of speed and open-water agility. She rides on a tapered, low-deadrise hull with moderate beam and cored hull sides. This two-stateroom arrangement with the galley in the salon is the most popular. she is finished with plenty of teak joinery and decorator fabrics and includes a separate stall shower in the head as well as a walkaround double berth in the bow stateroom. The cockpit is set up for serious fishing and includes a tackle center, freezer, and teak covering boards.

The 450 hp Caterpillar diesels, cruise at a fast 24 knots and reach 30+ knots top.
The Interior was updated in 2024 with a new custom couch and carpet by Gioia Sails and new blinds and a freshwater flush toilet.
In the spring of 2025, there were new dripless stuffing boxes and cutlass bearings installed. Starboard engine got new motor mounts, turbo and exhaust elbow. Both engines were aliened, and shafts were inspected.
