This classic custom Norman Cross trimaran is a proven cruiser. She has recently returned from a cruise down to South America and through the Panama Canal. Many upgrades including new upholstery, top sides, and bottom paint. She was re-rigged in 2014. She has a great layout for a cruising couple or family. She has an aft cabin stateroom with queen sized bunk and head. Custom interior of ash and canary wood. Large cockpit, as well as a separate fishing cockpit aft. Great liveaboard boat, fast, strong and stable.

Sunday is powered by a Yanmar j3jh three cylinder, 40 horsepower Diesel engine. The motor turns a 17 inch three blade fully feathering propeller. The propeller is a “Max prop” made in Italy, sold in the US by the PYI company. It provides exceptional reverse thrust equal to the forward thrust.

Her watermaker is a Spectra modular 12 volt unit. It is the earlier “Catalina” model which is similar to the model sold under that name today but in a more simple configuration.

The current owners purchased Sunday in unfinished and cosmetically poor condition in 2002.  She was hauled to their property where she was completely renovated and relaunched inn2005. Sunday was re-rigged four years ago after being dismasted due to a lightening strike.

She has transported us to beautiful and exotic ports as we watched the world go from the comfort of her cockpit.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1974 Norman Cross Trimaran offers a unique sailing experience with several distinct advantages and some considerations to keep in mind:

Pros

Stability: As a trimaran, it provides excellent stability compared to monohull sailboats, reducing heeling and offering a smoother ride.

Speed: The three-hull design typically allows for faster speeds, making it ideal for sailors looking for performance.

Shallow Draft: Its design often features a shallow draft, enabling access to shallower waters and more versatile cruising grounds.

Spaciousness: The beam of the trimaran provides more deck space and living area relative to its length, enhancing comfort onboard.

Classic Design: Being a 1974 model, it has a vintage appeal that attracts enthusiasts of classic multihull vessels.

Cons

Maintenance: Older trimarans like the 1974 Norman Cross may require more upkeep due to age-related wear and the complexity of three hulls.

Docking and Storage: The wider beam can make docking and finding suitable marina slips more challenging and potentially more expensive.

Weight: Some older trimarans can be heavier than modern counterparts, which may affect trailering and overall performance.

Limited Production: As a less common model from the 1970s, replacement parts and specific expertise for repairs might be harder to find.

Learning Curve: Handling a trimaran can be different from traditional monohulls, so some sailors may need time to adapt to its unique handling characteristics.

Made For

The 1974 Norman Cross Trimaran is designed for sailing enthusiasts who seek a versatile and stable multihull experience. Ideal for sailors interested in exploring coastal waters with speed and comfort, this trimaran appeals to those who appreciate innovative design combined with reliable performance. Whether you're an adventurous day sailor or looking for a unique vessel for weekend cruising, the Norman Cross Trimaran offers a distinctive option for individuals who value both style and functionality on the water.
