In the early 1980's Nordic Yachts of Bellingham washington launched the first Robert Perry designed Nordic 44. When these were being built, nobody in the US was building anything quite like this performance-oriented bluewater-capable sailboat. SERAFINA is hull #9 in the series.
The standard Nordic equipment was top notch: Strong rigging, hydraulic backstay adjuster, and full insulation throughout the interior.
Not only was the Nordic 44 a great sailing boat but a great cruising boat. She is roomy and also very fast. The deep draft keel gives her excellent windward ability while she also carries plenty of fuel, water, and abundant storage space.
Ventilation is plentiful with three large and one smaller opening hatches, four dorade vents, and six opening ports. The insulated hull helps when trying to heat the boat in cool weather and keep her cool in warm weather.
The hull is solid fiberglass, the deck is balsa cored with solid glass under the deck hardware which is through-bolted with proper backing plates. The rudder is hung on a heavy-duty full skeg for protection.
SERAFINA went through a major refit in 1996 when she received a powerful Westerbeke 70hp engine to replace the Westerbeke 50hp. Further, a sail locker with a crash bulkhead was added forward and the v-berth was enlarged. Back in the main cabin, a forward-facing nav station with chart table was added with bench seating.
SERAFIN'S current owner has solo circumnavigated twice with her, but is selling due to health considerations. I am sure her next owner will enjoy her just as much.
