Pros
Unique Design: The Nonsuch 354 features a distinctive catboat design with a full, unstayed mast, allowing for easy single-handed sailing. This layout provides excellent balance and stability while under sail.
Spacious Interior: The interior of the Nonsuch 354 is remarkably roomy for its size, boasting a comfortable salon, a well-equipped galley, and generous storage. The open concept allows for excellent airflow and light, making it a pleasant space for longer cruises.
Ease of Sailing: With a simple rigging setup and a large mainsail, the Nonsuch 354 is well-suited for both novice and experienced sailors. The boat’s helm is responsive and offers a smooth sailing experience, making it ideal for day sailing and extended voyages.
Solid Build Quality: Built to last, the Nonsuch 354 features a strong fiberglass hull and high-quality fittings. The craftsmanship is evident in the attention to detail throughout the vessel, ensuring durability and longevity.
Good Performance: This model has a reputation for decent performance under various wind conditions. Its design promotes efficient sailing, often allowing it to outperform many traditional keelboats of similar size.
Cons
Limited Sail Plan: While the simplicity of the sail plan is advantageous for some, experienced sailors may find the lack of headsail options restrictive. This limitation can affect performance in light winds or varying sailing conditions.
Draft Considerations: The Nonsuch 354 has a deeper draft compared to some cruising boats, which may limit access to shallower cruising grounds or marinas, especially during low tides.
Less Popular in Some Markets: The unique design may not appeal to all sailors, making it less common on the resale market compared to more traditional sailboats, which could be a consideration for future resale value.
Maintenance of Older Models: As with any older vessel, potential buyers should be mindful of the condition and maintenance history of the boat. Components such as the engine, rigging, and electrical systems may require updates or repairs.
Weight: The solid construction can make the boat slightly heavier than others in its class, which on one hand offers stability, but could also affect performance in very light wind conditions.
