Nitro Z19: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Nitro Z19 Z-Pro package is a 19-foot bass boat designed specifically for serious tournament anglers. Positioned to fill a gap in Nitro's lineup for a tournament-focused model in the 19-foot range, the Z19 Z-Pro offers a balance of size and performance. Measuring 19 feet 4 inches, it features ample casting platforms and a 16-degree deadrise at the transom, providing enough stability and handling capability to navigate choppy waters while remaining compact enough to fish in tight spaces near docks and structures.
Power and Performance
Our test boat was powered by a Mercury Optimax 200 Pro XS outboard engine with a 1.75-to-1 gear ratio, turning a Fury 14x25 three-blade stainless steel propeller. With two people aboard, a full fuel tank, and test gear, the boat weighed approximately 3,015 pounds. It achieved a top speed of 68.4 mph at 5,600 rpm. The most efficient cruising speed was recorded at 3,500 rpm, where the boat ran at 39.1 mph while consuming 7.4 gallons per hour, resulting in a fuel economy of 5.3 miles per gallon and a range of 239 statute miles with 10% fuel reserve. The Z19 Z-Pro utilizes Nitro's Vortex Technology (NVT) hull design, characterized by parabolic scalloped shapes that curve upward, enhancing turning ability and lift. Additionally, the Rapid Planning System incorporates a transom setback and a notch ahead of the motor to deliver cleaner water to the prop, improving propulsion efficiency. The hull design also minimizes water surging into the cockpit during deceleration, keeping the aft casting deck dry. Handling was confident and stable, with no chine walking or prop ventilation observed during wide arcs and tight turns.
Exterior Design and Deck Features
The Z19 Z-Pro's exterior is thoughtfully designed for tournament fishing. The aft casting deck measures 44 inches fore to aft and 80 inches across, providing 24 square feet of casting space. A dedicated socket allows for secure placement of a portable seat. The boat includes an 8-foot Power-Pole shallow water anchor mounted at the stern, and the Mercury Optimax 200 Pro XS is installed on an 8-inch jack plate. Forward on the aft deck, there are two insulated roto-molded 19-gallon Guardian Livewells with digital timers, oxygen generators, remote drain controls, and high-capacity recirculating and aerator pumps. The livewells are baffled and colored blue to reduce bait stress. Storage is ample, with locking hatches on each side containing removable tubs sized for seven Plano 3700 Series tackle boxes. A large center hatch provides access to the power pole pump, trolling batteries, cranking battery, and a three-bank 30-amp battery charger. Additional features include a two-stroke oil tank, a 1,000-gallon-per-hour bilge pump, and gel-coated stringers for durability.
Bow and Forward Deck
The bow casting deck offers 34 square feet of space with anti-fatigue padding beneath the marine carpet for comfort during extended fishing sessions. The bow is equipped with a Minn Kota Fortrex trolling motor delivering 80 pounds of thrust on a 45-inch shaft. Controls for the trolling motor, a second Lowrance HDS-7 structure scan fish finder, light and trim switches, a recessed foot pedal, and a cup holder are all conveniently located. Storage includes a port locker for rods up to eight feet long, a large lighted center compartment with customizable partitions, and a starboard locker with racks for the stern light, seat pedestals, and a paddle. Bungee cords on each side of the bow deck provide quick and secure rod storage.
Helm and Seating
The helm is equipped with multifunction V3 gauges and a Lowrance HDS-7 fish finder flush-mounted both at the bow and helm stations. The driver benefits from a hot foot throttle, tilt hydraulic steering wheel, and a pro-trim turn signal style trim switch that allows hands-on-wheel operation. Push-button accessory switches flank the wheel, with livewell recirculation controls on the starboard side. The shift control is ergonomically positioned, with livewell fill switches just ahead. A storage tray with a rubber mat and power pole controls are located near the shifter. Seating features automotive-style seats with wraparound backrests and angled cushions designed to hold occupants securely at high speeds. An optional second console can be bolted outboard to port, providing additional rod storage with a carpeted ramp for rod tips.
Additional Features and Trailer
Additional conveniences include a roto-molded 62-quart cooler with improved insulation and a tray to keep sandwiches separate from ice, a trash receptacle, and multiple cup and tool holders. The boat comes standard with a tandem axle trailer featuring GalvaShield coating and Surge disc brakes, enhancing durability and safety during transport.
Conclusion
The Nitro Z19 Z-Pro package is a well-rounded tournament bass boat that combines thoughtful design, advanced hull technology, and comprehensive features to meet the demands of serious anglers. Its performance on the water is confident and efficient, with excellent handling and fuel economy. The ample storage, livewell system, and ergonomic controls contribute to a tournament-ready experience right out of the box.
