Overview

The Nitro Z7 is a versatile bass boat designed to deliver both performance and comfort for serious anglers. Measuring 18 feet 8 inches in length overall with a 94-inch beam and a shallow 15-inch draft, the Z7 is capable of accessing skinny water with ease. It features a 16-degree variable dead rise hull and is offered with a standard 150 horsepower Mercury Pro XS outboard, rated up to 175 horsepower, providing a balance of power and efficiency. The boat is available in single or dual console configurations, with the dual console being easily removable to suit different fishing preferences.

Fishing Features and Deck Layout

The Z7 offers spacious casting decks at both the bow and stern, allowing anglers to move freely even with pedestal seats installed. These seats are positioned at a comfortable height and are supported by gas struts for ease of use. Central to the deck is a 32-gallon aerated and divided livewell equipped with a 500-gallon Brouwer recirculating pump and an aerator timer, featuring rounded corners for improved water flow. Courtesy lights are conveniently controlled directly at the light fixtures, eliminating the need to search for switches at the helm. The foredeck houses a recessed well for the foot control of the standard Minn Kota 42-inch shaft trolling motor, which delivers 70 pounds of thrust and includes a directional arrow for intuitive heading control. Optional trolling motors with shafts up to 52 inches and thrusts up to 80 pounds are also available. Rod storage is ample, with lockable compartments beside the passenger seat and under the forward casting deck, capable of holding rods up to eight feet. Bungee cords at the bow secure rods during transit. Additional removable storage bins flank the aft casting deck, complemented by an insulated cooler and a trash receptacle with molded finger cutouts for easy handling. The foredeck also features dedicated dry storage and a designated spot for the navigation light.

The Z7’s helm is thoughtfully designed for both comfort and functionality. It includes three-across seating with steps between seats, an improvement over previous models that required stepping on a folded center seat. The helm panel features a master power switch and white-faced gauges with chrome bezels, including a standard Lowrance Mark V FX Pro fishfinder. Rocker switches for the livewell aerator and recirculating pump are conveniently located to the right of the leather-wrapped, tilt-mounted three-spoke steering wheel. Flip-up cleats reduce snag hazards, and a reboarding step is positioned on the port side. The wiring harness is neatly channeled to the Mercury Optimax engine, with onboard storage for three batteries and the oil tank, which can be optionally equipped with a remote fill system. The dual console option can be removed via three attachment points, providing flexibility in layout.

Power and Performance

Powered by a 150 horsepower Mercury Pro XS outboard, the Nitro Z7 demonstrated impressive performance during testing. The boat exhibits a 10-degree bow rise during acceleration, which can be trimmed to achieve a smooth running pad with minimal spray. The hull’s design minimizes chine walking at high speeds, even in choppy conditions, with responsive steering allowing quick corrections. The windscreen effectively deflects wind off the operator’s face, although removing the port console increases cockpit space at the expense of wind protection for the passenger.
