The Nimbus Boats 365 Coupe was designed specifically to provide as many spaces on board for entertainment, socializing, and fun as possible, while also maintaining the high standards that come with being a Nimbus. The 365 Coupe was so well-built in fact that it won the European Powerboat of the Year award for its class, a nod to the thoughtfulness that went into designing and building the boat in a way that appeals to boaters needing a multi-use boat. With the Nimbus 365, you have the option to spend the day riding on the flybridge, wind in your hair, with exhilarating performance from the Volvo Penta inboard engines or relax in a spacious, luxurious interior with excellent views through the oversized windows.
The Nimbus 365 Coupe' was also built with Nimbus' patented Side-Walk Design. "Side-walk" is an asymmetrical deck layout where the side deck along the starboard side is extra wide and provides generous freedom of movement. It becomes convenient and enjoyable to move about on-board from bow to stern, and easy to get on and off the boat along the entire starboard side. Maximum use is made of the interior volume, allowing the cockpit, saloon, lower deck and cabin to be larger than would otherwise be the case in a boat of this size. An important feature of the Nimbus side-walk concept is the large flush fitted sliding door to starboard. The sliding door provides quick access when laying alongside and enables maneuvering the boat from a standing position on the side deck.
Accommodations for overnight trips on the Nimbus include two nicely appointed cabins including a twin berth in the master along with several windows and a skylight to open up the room. The second cabin also has a twin berth and shares a full head with shower and toilet with the main cabin. The 365 Coupe is truly built for enjoying your day on the water, but also has the amenities and space for a multiple day excursion. Nimbus 365 Coupé: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Nimbus 365 Coupe is a versatile cruiser designed for extended stays away from the dock, offering a blend of functionality and comfort. It features two staterooms and one head, providing ample accommodations for longer voyages. The boat is thoughtfully designed to balance social spaces, practical amenities, and performance capabilities, making it suitable for both day outings and multi-day excursions.
Exterior Design and Deck Layout
The cockpit serves as the primary social area on the Nimbus 365 Coupe, featuring an inviting L-shaped seating arrangement on the port side that wraps around an expandable pedestal table with integrated beverage holders. This area is protected by an extended hardtop positioned six feet, eight inches above the deck, complemented by 26-inch high bulwarks and 35-inch rails for safety. Storage is well integrated beneath the seating, including dedicated compartments for boat hooks and fenders. The hardtop supports a modular enclosure system that can be configured to block wind while maintaining comfort in the seating area. The boat's asymmetrical layout provides wider side decks on the starboard side, facilitating easier mooring with a zipper-accessible enclosure and flush-mount attachment points. The swim platform is accessed through an inward-opening gate, measuring three feet, eight inches from the transom, and includes two wet storage compartments flanking a centrally mounted reboarding ladder, a freshwater shower, and cleats on both sides. Forward deck features include teak decking wrapping around the bow, five-inch tow rails, 29-inch high rails, dual hatches for easy access to the all-chain anchor road, and a windlass mounted on a center platform with foot controls. The split bow rail allows convenient boarding from the front, while the trunk cabin's wide open space can accommodate an optional sun pad or chairs, with integrated beverage holders along the rails.
Engine Room and Mechanical Systems
Access to the engine room is gained by lifting the aft seat and opening two hatches on the aft deck. The compartment is designed to accommodate either single or twin-engine configurations; the test boat featured a single Volvo Penta D6 engine producing 440 horsepower. The engine is enclosed within a soundproof shield to minimize noise, with easily accessible checkpoints without removing the entire enclosure. Adjacent to the engine is a Fisher Panda generator, and the engine room door can be latched in multiple positions to provide a 24 to 31-inch wide entry with a generous 6 feet 4 inches of overhead clearance. Storage space is available alongside the engine compartment.
Interior Living Spaces
The salon area is designed for comfort and functionality, featuring a U-shaped settee on the port side that surrounds an adjustable-height pedestal table capable of converting into an additional berth. The table is expandable and includes beverage holders, while a refrigerated drawer is conveniently located underneath. The windows extend down to the top of the sofa backrest, offering excellent visibility and abundant natural light. The interior decking is a low-maintenance manufactured laminate, complemented by varnished mahogany woodwork throughout, especially in the galley area. The galley is equipped with a two-burner gas stove (with electric option available), a sink, ample counter space with an extendable serving area, a refrigerator, and thoughtfully designed storage including dedicated compartments for glassware, silverware, tableware, and a trash receptacle. Additional appliances include a microwave oven. The electrical system is managed via a touch panel and includes a diesel heater controller, with standard air conditioning powered by the 5.7 kW Fisher Panda generator. Two 100-watt solar panels on the overhead supplement the electrical system. The salon benefits from two electrically opening sunroofs with guttered perimeters to prevent water ingress, an opening side window on the port side, and an opening side door to starboard for ventilation and easy deck access. Forward-facing seating for two is positioned across from the helm, with storage and optional electrically actuated TV installation. The area also includes a Fusion stereo system and charging ports. Privacy is ensured with shades, curtains, and blackout skylight covers for converting the salon into a sleeping area.
Helm and Navigation
The helm station emphasizes ergonomic design, providing excellent comfort and visibility through a single-piece windshield with defrost vents. The compass is positioned forward with a storage cubby behind it, and the panel features a 16-inch display that integrates engine gauges, reducing clutter. Electrical switches are conveniently located, with Humphrey trim tabs and Volvo Penta displays positioned to the right. The steering wheel is mounted on a tilt base, and digital engine controls are easily accessible. Bow and stern thruster controls are located on two separate sticks for precise maneuvering. A grab handle is mounted on the left side for safety. The helm also benefits from an opening side door that enhances ventilation and provides direct access to the starboard side deck, facilitating mooring operations. The collapsible stainless steel Nimbus antenna mast reduces bridge clearance from 12.9 to 9.2 feet.
Private Accommodations
The master stateroom is located fully forward, offering a more spacious layout than typical island berths by setting the berth back from the forepeak. It provides 6 feet 1 inch of overhead clearance, a hanging locker on the port side, additional storage shelves and drawers on the starboard side, and access to the berth from both sides via steps. Natural light is abundant through an overhead hatch and two opening port lights. The master has a private entrance to the head, which also serves as a day head with an additional entrance from the companionway. The head compartment maintains the same 6 feet 1 inch headroom and includes an opening port light for ventilation, sliding mirrored storage, a stainless steel single basin sink, an electric flush toilet, and a separate shower stall—an uncommon feature in boats of this size. The guest stateroom is located across from the head and includes a seating area near the entrance, an opening port light, ample natural light, and a large berth.
Power and Performance
The Nimbus 365 Coupe measures 37.9 feet overall with an 11.5-foot beam and a 3.7-foot draft. The test boat's empty weight was 15,243 pounds, with a test load including fuel and four people totaling 17,443 pounds. Powered by a single 440-horsepower Volvo Penta D6 engine with a V-drive transmission, the boat achieved a top speed of 28 miles per hour at 3,380 RPM. The optimal cruising speed was 18 miles per hour at 2,600 RPM, with a fuel consumption of 12 gallons per hour, yielding approximately 1.5 miles per gallon and a range of 250 miles while retaining a 10% fuel reserve from the total 185-gallon capacity. The inboard configuration contributes to excellent handling, enhanced by a balanced stern thruster for maneuverability in tight spaces. The boat reaches planing speed in 6.8 seconds and accelerates through 20 miles per hour in 18.9 seconds. It exhibits a natural seven-degree bow-high attitude at cruise and maintains comfort during hard turns with a smooth slide and minimal lateral forces. The absence of propeller ventilation typical of inboard boats adds to its handling advantages. While significant chop was not encountered during testing, the boat handled wake-induced hull slap only at top speed and cut through chop smoothly at cruising speed.
Conclusion
The Nimbus 365 Coupe presents a well-rounded package combining versatile social spaces, comfortable accommodations, and strong performance characteristics. Its thoughtful design elements—from the modular cockpit enclosure and spacious interior to the ergonomic helm and efficient engine room layout—make it well suited for extended cruising and liveaboard use. Handling is responsive and confident, with features that facilitate single-handed or short-handed operation. Overall, the Nimbus 365 Coupe is a practical and capable cruiser designed to meet the demands of extended time on the water.
