Bones VIII is on the market for an owner who can appreciate the legacy of the masterful designs of the original S&S Swans for Nautor in Finland. Arguably, there are no finer built and capable yachts ever to have been placed upon the seven seas.
Recent work done on Bones VIII includes the following:
- Bottom Paint: In 2024, ablative, anti-fouling blue,
- Transmission: Repaired in 2024, and new cooler,
- Depth Transducer: new in 2024,
- Hot Water: Hoses replaced in 2024,
- Canvas: In 2022, new dodger, bimini and life raft cover,
- Batteries: 5 - 105amp, lead acid batteries, (4 house, 1 starter), new in 2022
- Engine: New Volvo 60 HP Turbo installed in 2016
- Teak: Completely replaced in 2002,
Bones VIII was purchased by the previous owner in 1984 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She sailed on her own bottom through the Panama Call up the coasts of Central America and Mexico to the Bay Area, where she settled into a berth in Stockton behind the owner's residence on the San Joaquin River Delta.
She was then raced on the Northern California coast, including the Danforth Series, Big Boat Series, Mexico Races to Manzanillo and the Oakland to Catalina race.
Following the previous owner's retirement in 1992, Bones VIII embarked on a cruise along the coast of Mexico and made the "right turn" to the Marquesas, French Polynesia, Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga, Australia and New Zealand where she had maintenance and upgrades performed. After that voyage, she returned via a reverse route arriving back in Northern California in 2000. While in California, she underwent major upgrades including new hand-laid Teak decks in 2002.
Following these upgrades, she went on an additional cruise through the Panama Canal and into the Caribbean, before sailing across the Atlantic to spend many seasons cruising the Med.
The current owner bought the boat in 2022. He had sailed as crew on various stages of the Bones VIII journey since 2016, and fell in love with the boat. He has proudly continued the Bones VIII legacy until recently, when he came to the realization that now is the time to downsize.
