Endurance has not spent her life at a dock. In the last cruising season alone she logged an estimated 3,200 nautical miles, extended Bahamas cruising, an 850 mile offshore passage to Bermuda, on to the Dominican Republic and back, with weeks at anchor along the way. That kind of use is a harder test of a cruising catamaran than any showroom walkthrough, and it is why everything about Endurance today, the rigging, the electrical system, the way she is set up to be handled, has been rebuilt or refined specifically for people who intend to go somewhere and actually live aboard once they get there, not just look the part at the dock.

That standard runs through every system aboard, starting with the hull itself. Nautitech builds this hull with fixed keels rather than the daggerboards common on performance cruising cats, a choice Marc Lombard has defended as wrongly reputed to be inefficient, trading a small amount of pointing ability for shoal draft simplicity and none of the daggerboard maintenance or grounding risk. The open concept layout, sliding glass doors that join the cockpit and saloon into one room, won a design award for exactly this reason. Most people who step aboard say the same thing, they cannot believe this much living space fits on a 40 foot boat. At anchor, that comfort holds up without a generator: the microwave, the electric cooktop, and both reverse cycle air conditioning units can run at the same time off a 1,200Ah lithium bank fed by 1,750 watts of solar, with nothing tripping. Checking on the system, in the current owner's words, is as simple as looking at one screen and seeing that everything is green.

The numbers back up the feel. Endurance has provisioned four to six people for two weeks without a resupply, with room to spare in the storage lockers and under sole bins for the extra. The galley is genuinely functional underway, not just at the dock, and runs an electric induction and convection cooktop for daily cooking alongside a microwave, with the built in propane oven and stove kept in reserve for cloudy days or the odd holiday roast. The tender runs on a quiet electric outboard rather than gasoline, which matters more than it sounds like it should. Always having a fully charged battery and not having gasoline aboard are two true safety benefits. She is also built to be handled by two people, not a delivery crew. The Leisure Furl in boom furling system means the main can be raised, reefed, furled, and trimmed entirely from the starboard helm seat, without anyone going forward onto the coach roof in building seas to wrestle a reef into place by hand. The main is dropped in about a minute using marks set on the mainsheet and topping lift so it rolls cleanly into the boom every time, and Endurance has been singlehanded comfortably as a result. A preventer runs to both sides of the boom at all times, even sailing upwind, so an autopilot dropout or a bad gust never lets the boom swing free.

The systems behind all of this are not stock, and the story of why is worth knowing rather than glossing over. About three months after a new lithium electrical system was installed, the boat was struck by lightning. Every system with electrons running through it went down at once. Insurance covered the claim in full, and every affected system, from the B&G electronics to the wiring itself, was replaced rather than patched, with no structural damage anywhere on the boat. The standing rigging was replaced proactively rather than because it was confirmed compromised. Selden could not rule out microcracking from the voltage surge, or test for it, and with an around the world passage on the calendar at the time, that uncertainty was not acceptable. Mack Sails replaced the complete standing and running rigging in 2024, and the Leisure Furl was installed at the same time while the mast was already down. The wiring itself was pulled and traced circuit by circuit alongside a B&G technician rather than handed off blind, so every run on this boat is documented and understood. More than one surveyor, electrician, and mechanic who has worked on Endurance since has said the same thing without being asked: "This thing is built solid."

All of it held up when it mattered. Flying the code 0 in 20+ knots of true wind on the Chesapeake, Endurance holds 10 to 12 knots of boat speed. The owner's own comparison of a Nautitech to a Lagoon: sailing a Nautitech 42 is like a Porsche next to a Volkswagen (Lagoon), the Lagoon is a lovely boat, but it is not doing 12 knots. 

She takes a 6 to 8 foot following sea in stride, comfortably enough that her crew has come up from an off watch nap to find the seas had built to 8 feet without anyone noticing. Last November, Endurance sailed Virginia to Bermuda, roughly 850 nautical miles offshore, sustained 30 to 35 knots for 12 hours, gusts to 50, seas 12 to 15 feet with the occasional 20 footer. The crew included a merchant mariner and a Royal Yachtsman, both experienced offshore sailors, and both said the same thing afterward: they could not believe how well the boat performed. Reefed down the entire time, Endurance handled it like a champ. She is rated to Beaufort 9, and while nobody aboard would recommend testing that rating on purpose, the conditions were the limiting factor that night, never the boat.

Endurance rewards a couple who wants to cover real distance without needing a full crew to do it, and every system aboard, from the rig to the electrical, was set up with exactly that in mind.
