There are a handful of yacht designers that stood out from the rest. One of the names that is most notable is Tom Fexas. He was responsible for some of the most innovative designs in yachting. His contributions blessed such yacht builders as Palmer Johnson, Cheoy Lee, Burger Boat Company, Derector Shipyard, Royal Denship, Knight & Carver and Mikelson Yachts.
The Mikelson 43' Sportfish was one of the builders most successful designs. The nearly 16' beam provided a huge cockpit for both fishing and pleasure. This rare model was based on the 43 design with some unique changes to make her more of a pleasure yacht. The flybridge aft deck was extended over the cockpit. This provided additional flybridge space and a larger covered cockpit area for entertaining.
The model's name was changes to the M440 LRC.
Standing dockside this vessel's long sleek windows, low and wide body style sets her apart from the look alike convertibles. The wide cockpit gunwales allow for easy boarding into the aft deck. By water a large swim platform allows guest easy access through the transom door. The aft deck is huge for a vessel of her size. Notable features include private access to a day head. Wet bar with sink and storage, staircase to the bridge deck, and two huge hydraulic hatches to the engine room.
The flybridge has a forward helm with central steering. There is fiberglass hardtop with four sided eisenglass enclosure. Other highlights include two stidd helm chairs, huge wrap around bench seat with pedestal table and huge aft sun deck.
The forward deck is easy access with wide side decks with tall safety rails. The bow items include Muir anchor windlass, removable dinghy davit, non skid deck, and three Bomar hatches.
The salon features cherrywood interior through out, Berber carpets, white vinyl overhead, and large windows providing lots of natural light. Forward to port is the galley. The u-shaped galley boasts Sharp Convection microwave, stainless sink, Princess stove, refrigerator/freezer and Corian countertops. Port aft is the L-shaped dinette with Hi-low table. This area converts to additional sleeping area. Across to starboard is the entertainment area. Other items include ice maker, leather chair, desk and storage cabinets.
The forward companion way provides access to the two cabins and shared head. All the way forward is the master stateroom. This stateroom has a island queen berth. This cabin highlights include numerous storage cabinets, reading lights, beautiful wood work, deck hatch, and private access to the head. To the port is the guest cabin. This stateroom has over under single berths. The long window and porthole gives plenty of light thought the cabin.
