"Only one sheet to pull" -- sailing at its most basic, yet there's plenty of subtle adjustments to get that big gaff-rigged main to set perfectly. Then, as proof that "old ways work", this fine-entry, but broad hull, will develop a lot of power from her amazing sail area, easily surprising bigger modern sloops. Catkin is the perfect daysailer with large cockpit space for six or eight with cuddy providing space for all the guests' gear. On the other hand, she is also the perfect weekender for a couple as she has very long, comfortable v-berths in the elegantly-trimmed cabin. Yanmar diesel inboard power to put her back to her berth or motor reliably to destination if the wind fails; easily trailerable to go visit new cruising grounds (55 mph to windward!). Catkin has great classic looks that always bring admiring comments from any harbor visited.
She was last in the water in 2012, but the engine was checked out by a diesel mechanic in August 2014 and was test operated for three hours. The engine has been winterized and the boat is in a building for the winter. The mainsail has two sets of reef points, the first set is jiffy reefing. She has wheel steering for ease of helming and to keep cockpit crew from having to move around, while underway. She has a double axle trailer for ease of hauling down the road.
The exterior needs some cleaning and polishing. The dark and light areas in the photos are dew, not imperfections in the gel coat. The interior is in great condition and does not need anything. Catkin is a great pocket cruiser!
