The X-80 can go from being a definitive wakeboard boat to a party barge for 15 of your closest friends or both at the same time thanks to its sheer size and power. Four feet longer and 12 inches wider than any other MasterCraft X-Series model, the X-80 is both uncommonly large and uniquely designed. Unlike other inboards, the X-80?s running surface utilizes a vented stepped hull and forked open bow for increased passenger capacity similar to the X-Star. The X-80?s enormity allows families and friends to spend more time playing and less time making pit stops at the dock. This model features an 110-gallon fuel tank, an enclosed head and a Convenience Center with ice bucket and pressurized fresh water sink. From bow to stern, the X-80 offers tons of space and comfort. The bow features wrap-around seating, drink holders, powerful JL Audio speakers with separates and lots of storage. It?s also accessible from outside the boat with a stainless steel ladder that telescopes from the vessel?s anchor stowage area. It?s perfect for climbing out of the water or storming a beachhead. Sitting or standing in the X-80?s cockpit is also a unique experience. The boat?s speedometer, tachometer and Perfect Pass Wakeboard Pro cruise red faced gauges are mounted above the dash in a billet aluminum, bullet-shaped ?X-Pod? that puts them in full view of the driver. The remainder of the dash houses all other essential instrumentation, including controls for the X-80?s Double KGB liner ballast system. There are 3 cup holders and the captain can tune the satellite ready Clarion AM/FM CD stereo using a digital remote in the armrest. The remainder of the X-80?s interior is completely open thanks to the boat?s V-Drive engine transmission. There?s plenty of walking room and wrap around seating ideal for sunbathing. This area is also loaded with amenities including abundant storage, drink holders, JL Audio speakers with separates, interior lighting, twelve-volt plugs, floor drains and snap-in carpet. The X-80?s enlarged fiberglass swim platform is seamlessly integrated into the stern. This oversized area is perfect for boarding the boat, putting on your board, launching a tube or just testing the water temperature. But the most spectacular features of the X-80 are the twin powerhouses that push this vessel through the water with ease and confidence. The X-80 is the industry?s only twin engine wakeboard boat, giving you access to 700 ponies that will scare water out of its way. Although the X-80 can out-accelerate MasterCraft?s premier ski boat in a head-to-head dual from 0 to 36 mph, it also handles pulling at lower speeds for wakeboarding and wakesurfing with absolute ease.
The remainder of the X-80's interior is completely open thanks to the boat's V-Drive engine transmission. There's plenty of walking room and wrap around seating ideal for sunbathing. This area is also loaded with amenities including abundant storage, 6 drink holders, 2 Clarion speakers with separates, 1 Clarion subwoofer, interior lighting, 2 twelve-volt plugs, 2 floor drains and snap-in carpet. The X-80's transom incorporates a walk-thru that allows passengers easy access to and from the swim platform between 2 large sun pads. Each of the pads lifts up on pressurized gas shocks to reveal additional self-draining storage spaces perfect for wet toys. The transom is constructed of a single fiberglass piece that covers the engine compartment and opens at the push of a button thanks to an electronic actuator. This compartment also contains huge amounts of storage space.

MasterCraft X-80: BoatTEST Review
Overview
Mastercraft, traditionally recognized for its high-performance ski and wakeboard boats, offers the X80 as a versatile family boat that combines spaciousness with powerful performance. This model features twin inboard engines and ample seating, accommodating up to 18 passengers comfortably for a full day on the water. Its design supports a variety of activities including wakeboarding, wakesurfing, water skiing, cruising, and navigating intercoastal waters, making it a highly adaptable vessel.
Exterior Design and Deck Layout
The X80 is distinguished by its unique pickle fork or Superfly front bow, which expands the seating area forward and includes handrails, drink holders, and deep storage compartments. The boat’s traditional monohull design is enhanced by a flared bow that creates a generous swim platform equipped with a telescoping swim ladder and an anchor storage compartment beneath. The wide swim platform and mirror allow the skipper excellent visibility behind the boat. The aft deck features a port-side bench seat that folds down into an aft-facing lounger, additional seating with storage underneath, and a sun pad at the stern with removable cushions. A large cooler spans the width of the aft seat and is accessible through the center section, complemented by a wet bar with a deep bin for drinks or trash. The bimini top stores neatly against the wakeboard tower and deploys quickly, while integrated board racks lock boards securely and swivel for easy access.
Interior Living Spaces
The X80 includes a surprisingly spacious head located on the port side, providing convenience for extended outings. Alternatively, the head can be removed to create additional storage space. The interior layout is designed to maximize comfort and functionality for family use while maintaining the boat’s sporty character.
Power and Performance
As the largest boat in Mastercraft’s fleet, the X80 is powered by twin 375 horsepower Crusader 6-liter MPI freshwater-cooled engines, part of the Saltwater series that includes sea strainers for enhanced durability. This propulsion setup not only delivers strong performance but also improves handling and ease of docking. The boat measures 28 feet 3 inches in length, with a trailerable beam of 9 feet 6 inches and a draft of 30 inches. Weighing 6,200 pounds and carrying 110 gallons of fuel, the X80 demonstrated impressive performance during testing. It accelerated onto plane in 3.7 seconds, reached 30 miles per hour in 5.7 seconds, and achieved a top speed of 51.7 miles per hour at 5,400 RPM. Equipped with 13.7 inch diameter by 14 inch pitch props and a 1.56 to 1 gear ratio, the boat cruised comfortably at around 30 miles per hour in moderate chop, burning 12.9 gallons per hour at 5,400 RPM for an estimated range of 190 miles.
Conclusion
The Mastercraft X80 successfully blends the qualities of a spacious family boat with the performance capabilities expected from a ski and wakeboard vessel. Its thoughtful design, twin-engine powertrain, and versatile features make it suitable for a wide range of water activities while providing comfort and convenience for large groups. This model stands out as a compelling option for those seeking a multi-functional boat that does not compromise on power or space.
