Marquis 720 Tri-Deck: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Marquis 720 represents the largest motor yacht offered by the Genmariac Group, designed with a focus on luxury, craftsmanship, and ocean-going capability. This yacht features a spacious interior with high-quality materials and thoughtful design elements that prioritize comfort and functionality for extended cruising.

Interior Living Spaces

The main salon of the Marquis 720 is distinguished by a curved glass entry door with a stainless steel frame, which expands the interior space and exemplifies the builder's commitment to intricate craftsmanship. Rich wood with a high-gloss finish dominates the salon, complemented by large windows that flood the space with natural light, enhanced by manually operated Roman shades. The salon is equipped with surround sound speakers and a pop-up television housed in a cabinet to starboard. The furniture is freestanding, including an oversized couch on the port side and two deck chairs to starboard, creating a comfortable and inviting environment. The carpeting is made of 100% nylon in a patterned cut-and-loop Saxony style, emphasizing durability and livability. The galley offers extensive quartz countertops, providing ample workspace, and includes a separate serving station with a stainless steel sink, chilled wine locker, refrigerated drawers, and storage for glassware, making it well-suited for entertaining. Marquis refers to this area as a sky lounge, though it is located on the main deck, offering panoramic views.

Exterior Design and Bridge

The Marquis 720 has a beam of 18 feet 4 inches, with most of the width dedicated to interior space. Side decks are relatively narrow at 15 1⁄2 inches but are designed with safety in mind, featuring bulwarks 34 inches high and rails reaching 41 inches. Courtesy lighting runs along the decks for visibility. Access to the flybridge is via a curved stairway with glass treads and a glass hatch that locks positively when open. The helm station provides commanding visibility forward but limited side views, which is addressed by optional remote control stations. One optional station is located on the aft bridge deck near a barbecue grill, offering views along the port side, while another, installed on this vessel, is in the aft cockpit. This aft cockpit control station allows full engine and thruster control with excellent visibility along the starboard side, facilitating precise maneuvering in tight spaces.

Helm and Pilot House

The helm is spacious, with ample room for electronics and well-organized switches, including a prominently placed red horn switch for quick access. To starboard are digital throttles linked to twin CAT C18 engines, along with controls for bow and stern thrusters. The adjustable steering wheel and helm seat offer multiple adjustments, including fore and aft movement, height, and swivel functions. The Marquis 720 is available with either an enclosed or open pilot house; this particular model features the enclosed version, which enhances comfort and usability in various climates. The enclosed pilot house includes a wet bar with a stainless steel sink and abundant storage, located in the aft starboard quarter. Large operable windows allow for natural ventilation when desired, while air conditioning can be used when closed. A comfortable settee to port provides a popular gathering spot with excellent views, and access to the lower deck is available via two stairways, one of which leads directly to the aft cockpit through an enclosed hatch.

Conclusion

The Marquis 720 is a thoughtfully designed luxury motor yacht that combines elegant interior finishes, practical and safe exterior features, and advanced control options for ease of handling. Its spacious salon, well-equipped galley, and versatile pilot house make it suitable for both entertaining and extended cruising. Safety considerations and maneuvering aids demonstrate the builder's attention to detail, making the Marquis 720 a compelling option in its class.
