The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1979 Marinette 28 is a classic boat that appeals to both new and experienced boaters. Here’s a breakdown of its pros and cons to help you understand what makes it a great choice—or a potential challenge.

Pros

Sturdy Construction: The Marinette 28 is built with a strong aluminum hull, making it lightweight yet durable. This construction choice helps resist corrosion and can contribute to lower maintenance over the years.

Versatile Design: The boat features a versatile layout with ample deck space, making it suitable for day cruising, fishing, and even weekend getaways.

Easy Handling: With a manageable length of 28 feet, this vessel is easy to maneuver, making it a great option for novice boaters or those looking for a boat that doesn’t require extensive experience.

Good Fuel Efficiency: The Marinette 28 typically has a modest engine size, leading to good fuel economy, which can be a significant advantage for longer trips or frequent outings.

Comfortable Cabin Space: The interior provides comfortable sleeping arrangements, kitchen amenities, and a small bathroom, making it quite livable for short trips or even extended stays.

Affordability: Being a model from the late 1970s, these boats are generally affordable compared to newer models, providing great value for those seeking quality without breaking the bank.

Cons

Older Technology: As a classic boat, the Marinette 28 may lack modern technology and navigation systems found in newer vessels, which could make certain upgrades necessary for tech-savvy boaters.

Maintenance Needs: While aluminum construction helps reduce corrosion, older boats may still require more ongoing maintenance to ensure everything is functioning optimally.

Space Limitations: While the cabin is livable, it is still compact. For larger groups, space can feel cramped, and it may not accommodate everyone comfortably overnight.

Performance: While suitable for leisurely cruising, the Marinette 28 is not built for speed, so if you’re looking for high-performance boating, this model may not be the ideal choice.

Less Storage: Depending on the layout, some users may find that storage solutions are limited, which can be a downside for extended outings where extra gear is needed.
