The test boat was powered by a single Mercury 60 horsepower EFI four-stroke engine paired with a 10 by 13 propeller and fueled by a portable 6.6-gallon tank. During testing, it achieved a top speed of 34.9 miles per hour at 5,800 RPM while consuming 5.1 gallons per hour, resulting in an average range of 37 statute miles. At a more economical 4,000 RPM, the boat cruised at 21.3 miles per hour with a fuel burn of 2.5 gallons per hour, extending the range to 47 statute miles. The vessel demonstrated quick responsiveness with a time to plane of four seconds and accelerated from zero to 30 miles per hour in 6.9 seconds.
Exterior Design and Deck Layout
At the stern, the ProSkiff 17 features a full-beam raised aft casting deck with a non-skid surface, providing a secure platform for fishing activities. A grab handle facilitates easy reboarding, and the fuel line and engine cables are neatly routed through a watertight fitting. The throttle is mounted high on the starboard side, allowing ease of use both seated and standing. Molded-in grab handles are present on both sides of the front seat, and the wraparound gunnels are finished to a high standard. Moving forward, the bow offers a large, raised casting deck with a solid feel and a non-skid surface. Integrated into the deck is a watertight storage compartment, and in front of the console is a wide, comfortably padded seat with a backrest. Beneath this seat lies an 8-gallon aerated bait well.
