"WING" was purchased by the current owners in 1989 directly from MacGregor Yachts in Costa Mesa California where she was built. The boat was transported by truck to Annapolis Maryland where it was commissioned.

Wing is a true offshore sailboat. Based in Solomon’s Maryland, the owners have sailed her all over the North Atlantic from the Virgin Islands, in the South to Halifax Nova Scotia, in the North and many places in between. She has been to Bermuda several times, and to Maine and New England on many occasions. She just returned from a three-week trip to Maine with the owner’s and families. This boat is ready to go anywhere.

She has never disappointed and has always arrived at her destinations with few if any problems.

The owners have had many great times sailing in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

Often groups of young people have had their first experience sailing aboard Wing as well as other groups of “senior citizens”, families and friends.

?

Many interior and exterior upgrades have been made over the years making her a great boat for those who enjoy a good sail.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1989 MacGregor Pilot House offers a unique blend of features that appeal to a variety of sailors. Here are some of the key pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Versatile Pilot House Design: The enclosed pilot house provides excellent protection from the elements, making it comfortable for sailing in cooler or inclement weather.

Trailerable: Like other MacGregor models, the Pilot House is designed to be trailerable, allowing for easy transport and storage.

Shallow Draft: With a retractable keel, the boat can navigate shallow waters and is ideal for exploring coastal areas and inland waterways.

Spacious Interior: The cabin layout maximizes space, offering comfortable accommodations for overnight trips.

Good Performance: While not a racing boat, it offers respectable sailing performance for cruising and day sailing.

Dual Steering Options: The wheel steering inside the pilot house and tiller steering on the cockpit give flexibility in handling.

Cons

Limited Headroom in Some Areas: Despite the pilot house, certain parts of the cabin may have restricted headroom, which can feel cramped for taller individuals.

Older Design Features: As a 1989 model, some onboard systems and materials may be outdated and require maintenance or upgrades.

Weight: Compared to some newer trailerable sailboats, the MacGregor Pilot House may be heavier, impacting towing requirements.

Limited Chart Table Space: The pilot house design can limit the size of navigation and charting areas.

Sailing Performance: While adequate, it may not satisfy sailors looking for high-speed or performance-oriented sailing.
