Larson LXi 208: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Larson LXI 208 is the smallest model in Larson's LXI series, designed to offer the amenities and comfort of larger bow riders in a compact 20-foot package. This 2006 model features an all-new, luxurious interior with high-style design elements and innovative features that enhance usability and passenger comfort, making it well-suited for smaller lakes and bodies of water.

Exterior Design and Deck Features

The LXI 208 incorporates several thoughtful exterior features uncommon in boats of its size. At the bow, integrated docking lamps and a bow boarding ladder—typically found on deck boats—are included, with the ladder having its own cover and a storage compartment for rope beneath it. The wraparound seating is upholstered in premium materials, with deeper seats near the windshield to improve safety for smaller passengers. Additional storage is plentiful under the seats on both port and starboard sides, as well as in the bow area. A removable cushion can fill the center walkway to create a large sun pad at the bow. Stainless steel hardware and cup holders are used throughout, complemented by netted compartments for extra storage in the walkthrough and a large deck compartment designed for skis. The stainless steel windshield supports serve a dual purpose as handholds. At the stern, a large integrated swim platform is flanked by a freshwater shower and rope storage on the port side and a boarding ladder on the starboard side. The center rear seat opens to reveal a compartment spacious enough for a cooler and other gear, while a large sun pad behind the seats lifts on hydraulic struts to provide access to the engine compartment. An innovative boarding feature allows easy access on and off the boat by removing a seat cushion and opening an integrated door in the backrest.

Interior and Helm

The helm station is equipped with white-on-black gauges accented by chrome bezels, and auxiliary electrical functions are managed via toggle switches. The optional Corsa performance exhaust system offers selectable exhaust tones controlled by a rocker switch at the helm. Both the captain and passenger seats are stylishly designed with thick bolstering for comfort. The passenger console includes a glove box and a protected compartment for the Clarion radio, secured with premium stainless steel latches. The dashboard features elegantly textured plastic surfaces. Passenger comfort is further enhanced by an expansive, well-padded bench seat with stainless steel handholds and cup holders. Rear speakers are discreetly mounted behind decorative fabric screens, contributing to the onboard entertainment experience.

Power and Performance

Powered by a MerCruiser MPI 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 260 horsepower, the Larson LXI 208 delivers strong performance for its size. The boat measures 20 feet 9 inches in length, with a beam of 7 feet 10 inches and a draft of 33 inches, weighing 3,245 pounds and carrying 29 gallons of fuel. During testing, the LXI 208 achieved a top speed of 52 miles per hour at 5,000 RPM. At a cruising speed of 29.1 miles per hour, the engine runs at 3,000 RPM, providing fuel efficiency of approximately 4.5 miles per gallon and a cruising range exceeding 118 miles.

Conclusion

The Larson LXI 208 combines a compact footprint with a host of premium features and thoughtful design elements that enhance comfort, convenience, and performance. Its new interior styling is both luxurious and functional, while innovative touches such as integrated boarding ladders, ample storage solutions, and a versatile sun pad configuration make it a compelling choice for boaters seeking a well-appointed bow rider for smaller waterways.
