Summary
Herkee is a non-chartered, converted Lagoon 380 sailing catamaran. Since purchasing her in 2020, the current owners have repowered with new Yanmar 40hp engines and sail drives, added major solar/lithium power systems, and dis-masted her creating a self-sufficient, “off-the-grid” power cat/trawler.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

2004 Lagoon 380: Pros and Cons

Pros

Spacious Design: The Lagoon 380 features a well-thought-out layout, providing ample living space for both relaxation and entertaining. With its open-plan salon and large windows, it offers excellent natural light and panoramic views.

Stability and Performance: Known for its impressive stability on the water, the Lagoon 380 performs well in a variety of sea conditions. The catamaran design minimizes heeling, providing a comfortable sailing experience.

Ease of Handling: With dual engines and a user-friendly sail plan, the Lagoon 380 is manageable for both novice and experienced sailors. The design allows for good visibility from the helm, enhancing safety during navigation.

Ample Storage: The boat is equipped with abundant storage options, including lockers, cabinets, and under-deck compartments, making it ideal for long voyages or extended living aboard.

Versatile Deck Space: The outdoor areas, including the cockpit and bow, are perfect for sunbathing, dining, or socializing, making it a great choice for families or groups of friends.

Cons

Limited Speed: While the Lagoon 380 provides a stable ride, it may not be the fastest catamaran in its class. Those seeking high-speed performance might find it lacking compared to other options.

Aging Components: Being a 2004 model, some systems and components may show signs of wear and may need updating or replacement. Potential buyers should consider the condition of sails, electronics, and other critical systems.

Draft Considerations: With a draft of approximately 1.15 meters, the Lagoon 380 may not be suitable for extremely shallow waters, which could limit some potential cruising areas.

Maintenance Costs: As with any boat, upkeep can be costly. Regular maintenance of both the engines and the hull is essential, and potential buyers should budget for these ongoing expenses.

Less Performance in Heavy Winds: The Lagoon 380 is designed for comfort and stability rather than raw speed; thus, it may not perform as well in heavy winds compared to sportier designs. The 2004 Lagoon 380 strikes a great balance between comfort, ease of use, and versatility, making it a solid choice for cruising enthusiasts. However, potential buyers should weigh the pros and cons based on their specific sailing needs and preferences.
