Overview
The Key West 203 DFS is a versatile 20-foot, 3-inch dual-console boat designed for fishing, cruising, and water sports. Powered by the innovative 3-cylinder Evinrude E-Tech G2 150 outboard engine, this model combines efficient performance with practical features tailored to anglers and recreational boaters alike. The boat’s empty weight is 1,950 pounds, and during testing with two people, 50 gallons of fuel, and equipment aboard, the total weight reached approximately 2,765 pounds.
Power and Performance
The test boat was equipped with a single 3-cylinder Evinrude E-Tech G2 150 outboard engine paired with a 14.5 by 21 inch RX3 stainless steel propeller, one of two new propeller designs for this engine series. The Evinrude E-Tech G2 150 is a unique 1.9-liter two-stroke, three-cylinder outboard engine weighing 433 pounds. Its standout feature is direct fuel injection into the cylinder, a design exclusive in its class. At lower RPMs, the engine employs stratified combustion, delivering minimal fuel to the upper part of the cylinder, which results in outstanding fuel efficiency during idle and trolling. When higher power is required, the engine switches to homogeneous combustion, injecting more fuel and air into the larger cylinder section. The fuel injector operates at pressures up to 800 PSI, enabling precise fuel delivery. Additional features include an auto trim function and a redesigned lower unit with larger water pickups positioned lower and farther forward, allowing for higher mounting in shallow water conditions. Maintenance demands are minimal, with no break-in period, no frequent oil changes or filter replacements, and no annual dealer visits required. The first scheduled dealer service is at five years or 500 engine hours, supported by a comprehensive warranty including a five-year anti-corrosion guarantee.
Exterior Design and Deck Layout
At the stern, the Key West 203 DFS features a three-step stainless steel boarding ladder to port and a storage locker to starboard.
