Accommodations

When approaching Kewaydin, you will find a well-cared-for yacht. Her freshly refinished exterior teak and new canvas make her stand out in the crowd of other boats in the marina. For those unfamiliar with the Island Packet 40, as you step aboard, you will notice the custom double stainless steel railing from the boarding gates aft, adding extra security. The lifelines forward of the gates have been replaced with Dyneema lifelines. Moving forward, there are wide, clear side decks with raised bulwarks that increase in height as you progress. The anchor platform features two rollers and a horizontal electric windlass. The coach roof has six opening hatches, four dorade vents, and twelve opening stainless steel ports. Back in the cockpit, you’ll find a spacious area with 8-foot seating on both the port and starboard sides and a dedicated, raised helm seat. The pedestal contains a rack-and-pinion steering system and a stainless steel destroyer wheel with a teak folding cockpit table. The instruments are bulkhead-mounted, with the autopilot controls conveniently located in the port side coaming near the helm.

Heading below deck, you are greeted by a large, open salon and galley. The galley is located directly to starboard of the companionway ladder. It is large and C-shaped, offering plenty of countertop workspace and storage. The galley is equipped with a three-burner stainless steel stove and oven, as well as a divided refrigerator/freezer with a spill-over fan.

Just forward of the galley is an aft-facing nav station. This area includes an opening chart table, breaker panels for both 12v and 120v systems, as well as wind generator and solar panel controls, VHF, a Link 20, and a stereo.

To port of the companionway is access to both the day-use head and the aft cabin. The head features dual access, with a door to the salon and another to the aft cabin for private use. It contains a marine toilet with a fold-down teak seat, a stainless steel sink with storage cabinets both above and below, a bulkhead-mounted adjustable showerhead, and a full-length mirror. The aft cabin includes a large double berth and a wardrobe with a cedar-lined hanging locker and doored storage compartments.

Returning to the salon, you’ll find a bright, open, and airy space. With the table folded up against the bulkhead, the area is cleared for lounging or entertaining while at anchor. To port is a straight-line settee, and on the starboard side is an L-shaped settee that pulls out to become a third double berth. There is ample storage beneath and behind both settees, as well as smaller storage cabinets above and behind the settee backs. When the table is dropped, there is storage behind it, and when fully opened, the table can seat guests from both settees.

Moving forward, you’ll find the owner’s stateroom. This is a large cabin featuring a Pullman berth to starboard with plenty of drawer storage beneath it. To port, there is a large wardrobe with a cedar-lined hanging locker and multiple doored storage compartments. Forward of this cabin is a private head. To port is a flush-mounted stainless steel sink set into a semi-wraparound countertop with storage above and below. The marine toilet is centrally located and includes a fixed teak shower seat with an adjustable bulkhead-mounted shower head.

Engine room access is provided by two hinged doors and a lift-off panel beneath the companionway steps.
