Pros
Robust Construction: The Island Packet 35 features a solid fiberglass hull with a full keel design, which enhances stability and durability, making it suitable for offshore cruising.
Comfortable Interior: The spacious and well-thought-out interior includes ample headroom, a generous galley, and comfortable living spaces, ideal for extended voyages or weekend getaways.
Excellent Stability: The full keel and heavy displacement provide excellent stability in various sea conditions, making it a reliable choice for both inexperienced and seasoned sailors.
Good Storage: The layout includes plenty of storage compartments, allowing for ample space to stow gear and supplies for long trips.
Fuel Efficiency: The Island Packet 35 is designed to be fuel-efficient under power, making it easier and more economical for motoring in calms or against prevailing winds.
Reputation for Safety: The design and construction of Island Packet yachts emphasize safety, which is a key consideration for those planning to venture into deeper waters.
Cons
Sluggish Performance: While stable, the full keel design can result in slower sailing speeds compared to more modern fin keel designs, potentially deterring those who prioritize speed.
Limited Ventilation: Some owners have noted that while the interior is comfortable, it may lack sufficient ventilation, which can be an issue in warmer climates without adequate air circulation.
Age-Related Maintenance: Being a boat from 1990, potential purchasers should be aware that they may need to invest in maintenance or upgrades to ensure all systems are functioning optimally.
Resale Value: While Island Packet boats are generally well-regarded, older models may depreciate slower than newer boats, potentially affecting resale value if not maintained properly.
Narrower Beam: While the more traditional design offers advantages in stability and tracking, the narrower beam can make for a somewhat cramped feel below deck compared to wider beam designs.
