1998 Hylas 46 "Elena" - Ready to Cruise, Exceptionally Maintained
Elena is a beautifully maintained and extensively upgraded example of the renowned Hylas 46 - a proven bluewater cruiser designed by German Frers and built to exacting standards by Queen Long Marine. Revered for her solid construction, offshore capability, and luxurious interior, Elena combines elegance with rugged performance, and she's fully equipped for extended cruising or liveaboard life.
This 1998 model has benefited from significant recent improvements, making her a standout in the market. At the heart of her upgrades is a powerful Yanmar 80 HP engine (1,000hrs)- a newer, reliable powerplant with the strength and efficiency to handle long passages and tight maneuvering alike.
For the sailing purist, Elena has also received a newer Doyle mainsail w/StackPack and genoa, ensuring smooth, responsive sailing performance. Her rigging has been recently overhauled, including both standing and running rigging, offering peace of mind for offshore work. Electric primary and main halyard winches. The addition of a new robust Balmar 170 amp alternator ensures efficient battery charging while underway, essential for today's energy-hungry cruising needs.
Above deck, Elena presents beautifully with her newer Awlgrip-painted hull, shining with the classic Hylas profile and graceful sheer line. She's protected and functional with a newer canvas package, offering excellent shade and shelter in the cockpit, ideal for both tropical cruising and temperate conditions. Her recent bottom paint means she's turn-key and ready to launch.
With two 120 W solar panels recently installed, Elena is outfitted for energy independence - a must for extended cruising and remote anchorages. Her electrical system has been thoughtfully designed to support off-grid living with minimal reliance on shore power or engine charging. She has 2500 W Freedom inverter/charger.
The Hylas 46 is celebrated for her spacious and intelligent layout below decks. Elena features a luxurious aft owner's cabin with a centerline queen berth, excellent ventilation, and ample storage - a true retreat after a day at sea. Forward is a generous guest cabin with a Pullman berth, making her comfortable for couples, families, or hosting guests. All berths are equipped with lee cloths.l. Two well-appointed heads, each with showers, add to her livability.

The hull of the Hylas 46 is completely hand laid solid fiberglass with eight longitudinal stringers tied to each frame and bulkhead providing an unusually strong seamless monolithic structure in excess of A.B.S. standards. The keel is externally bolted lead using 12 solid stainless steel 1 3/8”bolts with backing plates. The distance between the rudder and the keel is measured by design to provide excellent directional, stability and balance. The semi-skegged rudder provides for solid combination of strength protection and performance. The bottom of the rudder is 6 inches higher than the low point of the keel, providing protection for the rudder in the event of grounding. Hylas built these boats with two bottom epoxy barrier coats to avoid blistering. The deck is fiberglass sandwich construction with balsa core. Solid GRP fiberglass in all areas of the deck for fittings and stress areas. The deck is bonded to the hulll with 3M 5200 epoxy and through bolted every 5 inches with backing plates. Molded contrasting nonskid is also incorporated.
